2016 Resolutions, Predictions and Goals

Happy New Year Socialites! A few days before New Year’s Eve, I came back to New York City around 6 a.m. on the train after spending Christmas in my hometown of Wilmington, Delaware. A few miles outside of the city, I saw a stunning sunrise over Manhattan and began to think about the year I’ve had and what’s ahead for 2016.

Manhattan Sunset

2015 was a great year for me. I took on New York Fashion Week, traveled to Seattle, grew my Instagram following, discovered my inner geek, hiked in New Hampshire, became a bridesmaid, got in the best shape I’ve been in for years using Classpass and shot some amazing new looks. With everything I’ve learned and achieved this year, I hope to grow my blog, my income and become an even more well-rounded and accomplished person in 2016.

New Year’s Resolutions

In order to make 2016 the best year ever, my New Year’s Resolution is to email one person a day who I’d like to meet or whom I could partner with on my blog. Together I hope that my new connections and I can lift each other into new and exciting successes. I feel like people across all walks of life often have amazing ideas or see people that they want to reach out to, but something stops them from doing so. Well, I can only imagine what a better place the world would be if we all reached out to people we admire or acted on our ideas. For me, 2016 is the year that I do just that.

Since I love being in front of the camera, I also plan on taking acting lessons this year. While I have no expectations whatsoever for my potential acting career, I think it could be a lot of fun to give acting a shot if only to have somewhere else to channel my drama aside from my boyfriend.

2016 Predictions

With 2016 being an election year obviously politics and the future of this country will be at the forefront of news and pop culture. While this is to be expected, I can see this election year getting especially heated. Knowing first-hand just how difficult it is to make it as a college graduate in this country, I hope that we will elect someone who will actually follow through with their promise to help the middle class because at the end of the day it’s the middle class that has taken the biggest hit. Therefore, they need the most help recovering and rediscovering upward mobility.

I predict that more Indie Films will go mainstream and end up in theaters. According to what I saw at Fashion Week, bold eyeshadows will be popular in beauty this spring. With everything being mass produced in China, I see street fashion trends staying pretty much the same in 2016.

Central Park Fireworks

With all the excitement around what’s to come, I forgot to mention how I spent New Year’s Eve.  My boyfriend and I had originally planned on having a couple people over for a low key night at our place. But, when they bailed I got even more lazy and stayed in my yoga pants all day after coming home from my fitness class. At the last minute my boyfriend and I decided to ring in the New Year at the Central Park fireworks with his family. It was a beautiful fireworks display and Central Park was super crowded. While no one can really know what the next year will bring, I hope that 2016 brings me more spontaneous brunches, trips to the West Coast, beach days and relaxing nights in with my boyfriend.

Most of all, I wish you a beautiful and prosperous 2016!

New Year’s Eve Glam!

New Year’s Eve is all about the glamour! And by glamour I mean a sequined, sparkly glittery outfit topped with a glass of champagne. However, no matter what you’re wearing remember first and foremost to party like it’s 1999, but keep it classy.

New Year's Dress

This glamourous golden look, started with a fab find at Bloomingdale’s. On a whim I picked up this Aqua Gold Metallic Knit Fit & Flare Dress for under $40 and paired it with a French Connection clutch I had decorated with my blog name at New York Fashion Week, my favorite Star Power by Spanx High Waist Shaping Tights (very slimming), my Kendra Scott Naomi Two Finger Ring Adjustable Ring and my Grandmother’s vintage jewelry. To keep up the glam I put on Elizabeth Arden Beautiful Color Moisturizing Lipstick and painted my nails with CND Vinylux Grommet.

New Year, New Beauty!

2016 is just around the corner and one of the best ways to celebrate a New Year is to treat yourself to something nice. I’ve always found that buying yourself a new beauty product is one of the most affordable and glam ways to ring in the New Year.

Since New Year’s Resolutions often involve eating less, spending less or depriving yourself of one thing or another, doing a little something for yourself is a great way to offset a less fun resolution. So hit up your local Sephora, Ulta or drug store and get yourself something nice.

Getting your New Year’s beauty on doesn’t always mean splurging or going over budget. I’ve found lower priced products that are almost identical to their higher end counterparts. For example, Maybelline Volum’ Express The Falsies Push Up Drama Mascara priced at around $9.49 produces similarly fabulous results to my all time favorite Tarte Lights, Camera, Flashes Statement Mascara that goes for around $23.00. If you can’t afford to pay $54 for the Urban Decay Naked3 eyeshadow palette, simply pick up a Maybelline The Blushed Nudes Palette for just $9.99. I’ve used both mascaras and both palettes and know from experience that they will give you similar if not identical results.

Even just getting yourself a new nail polish or a Birchbox subscription can get your year off to the right start.  If you’re happy with all the new products you got for the holidays, then why not get yourself a new makeup case to help you move forward with your New Year’s Resolution to travel more? Get ready to get glam!

My Predictions for 2015

New Years resolutions

I can’t believe it’s 2015. It feels like only yesterday it was 2005 and I was about to graduate from high school. Since then I’ve graduated college, moved to New York and started a blog. Though I’m not one for resolutions, this year I’m really working toward a fatter bank account and a skinnier waist. I’m even going to start running for the first time ever.

While visiting a psychic is super fun and a great way to start a New Year, I decided to make my own predictions this year based on the trends I’ve seen and experienced as a fashion blogger in NYC. Here’s what I see trending in 2015…

Beauty

Based on what I’ve seen on the runways of the last two New York Fashion Weeks, I see 2015 beauty being very polarized. While the nude no makeup look will be popular, so will intensely bold eyes with big black liners.

Other beauty trends such as negative space manicures showing some of the natural nail, metallic temporary jewelry tattoos, metallic accents/eyeshadows, faux piercings and nail art will also remain popular throughout the year. If anyone can figure out how makeup artists actually do faux piercings please let me know because it’s a total mystery to me.

Fashion

Since fashions don’t change as fast as they used to, I see street styles such as skinny jeans, leggings and boots sticking around through 2015.

As for new trends, I predict that the 90s will have an even bigger influence on 2015 with the return of denim outfits, a touch of grunge and a lot more plaid. Though I’m unsure how much influence goth fashion will have on the coming year, I think it will return in some way to the fashion and/or beauty scene. The fact that the 90s is now the new retro decade really makes me feel old.

Entertainment/Pop Culture

Back to the Future Part II will resurface in 2015 as a pinnacle of pop culture. Thanks to Marty McFly’s visit to 2015 back in 1985, tons of people have their hearts set on a hoverboard. While I think someone will make the hoverboard happen, I don’t think this is the year of flying cars. Personally, I just want a DeLorean.

Game of Thrones will continue to grow in popularity in 2015 and will have influence on fashion and beauty. I predict a Game of Thrones partnership with a beauty brand this year.

Movies exploring the themes of class, government control and the shrinking middle class will become even more prominent in Hollywood.

New Year’s Eve 2015 in Times Square

New Year's Times Square

Last night I said goodbye to 2014 and hello to 2015 in Times Square with my boyfriend and his family. Though watching the ball drop at home is always exciting, there’s nothing like seeing the New Year’s Eve countdown in person and feeling the confetti fall all around you at midnight. Everyone should do it at least once.

As I relax at home on New Year’s Day, I can’t wait to see what 2015 has in store. I hope it brings with it my first 5K run, a trip to the west coast with my boyfriend and many other happy surprises. Happy New Year Socialites!
