The streets of New York are paved in fashion and during the colder months, bright plaid shirts are a style staple. I love red plaid button ups because they’re perfect for both fall and the holidays.
I can’t believe it’s 2015. It feels like only yesterday it was 2005 and I was about to graduate from high school. Since then I’ve graduated college, moved to New York and started a blog. Though I’m not one for resolutions, this year I’m really working toward a fatter bank account and a skinnier waist. I’m even going to start running for the first time ever.
While visiting a psychic is super fun and a great way to start a New Year, I decided to make my own predictions this year based on the trends I’ve seen and experienced as a fashion blogger in NYC. Here’s what I see trending in 2015…
Beauty
Based on what I’ve seen on the runways of the last two New York Fashion Weeks, I see 2015 beauty being very polarized. While the nude no makeup look will be popular, so will intensely bold eyes with big black liners.
Since fashions don’t change as fast as they used to, I see street styles such as skinny jeans, leggings and boots sticking around through 2015.
As for new trends, I predict that the 90s will have an even bigger influence on 2015 with the return of denim outfits, a touch of grunge and a lot more plaid. Though I’m unsure how much influence goth fashion will have on the coming year, I think it will return in some way to the fashion and/or beauty scene. The fact that the 90s is now the new retro decade really makes me feel old.
Entertainment/Pop Culture
Back to the Future Part II will resurface in 2015 as a pinnacle of pop culture. Thanks to Marty McFly’s visit to 2015 back in 1985, tons of people have their hearts set on a hoverboard. While I think someone will make the hoverboard happen, I don’t think this is the year of flying cars. Personally, I just want a DeLorean.
Game of Thrones will continue to grow in popularity in 2015 and will have influence on fashion and beauty. I predict a Game of Thrones partnership with a beauty brand this year.
Movies exploring the themes of class, government control and the shrinking middle class will become even more prominent in Hollywood.
What I love most about fall is breaking out my skinny jeans, boots and light sweaters. The comfortable chill in the air, gets me thinking about Halloween and apple cider. The changing leaves also play a huge role in my style choices during the fall months. In celebration of fall, here’s my shopping list of fab fall fashions:
1. House Of Harlow 1960 Tribal Tooth Pendant: Tribal styles are a great way to take your fall style to the next level. Not only are the patterns unique, they also mimic the changing leaves perfectly.
3. Camel Detachable Fur Lined Hood Contrast Trims Cape: I’ve always wanted a cape and this one is to die for! Fall is the best time to wear capes as they can be a stylish alternative to a light jacket. With winter being so cold, they often get covered up. So take the opportunity to show them off during fall.
4. Sephora Favorites Draw The Line: I love black eyeliner, especially liquid. However, I don’t wear it much in the summer because the heat often melts it off. So in the fall, I kind of go crazy with the liner.
5. Vince Camuto ‘Karita’ Over the Knee Boots: There’s nothing sexier for fall than over the knee boots. Aside from being sexy, they keep you warm and go with anything. With all the walking I do around NYC, I wore out my old pair last year. I’m dying to get these.
Having been a kid in the 1990s growing up with Saved By the Bell, Clueless, and T.G.I.F., it’s kind of starting to freak me out that the 90s are the new retro decade. For the first time ever, I’m really starting to feel old. But, in spite of it all, I miss the 90s and I’m glad to see them back in full force. Sure we still used land lines and paid for the Internet by the hour, but the economy and music were amazing. So welcome back!
From what I hear, the California grunge look that was all the rage in the era of teenage rebellion will be hitting stores once again this fall. So in honor of welcoming my childhood’s trends back into modern fashion and pop culture, I put together a grunge-inspired photo shoot starring my favorite green plaid top that I found downtown at a vintage store. I like to think that it’s actually from the 90s, but who knows. All I’m missing is a pair of Doc Martens.
Today, after feeling a refreshing chill in the September air, I bailed my stylish boots out of boot jail in the back of my closet where they had served time this summer when it was too warm to wear them. Now I can’t wait to layer them with leggings and skinny jeans as the leaves change color.
Here is a list of the hot items this season that I can’t wait to break out in the cold weather:
Aspiring Socialite Tee: In case you haven’t heard or didn’t see it on the sidebar, I have just come out with a line of Aspiring Socialite Teesthat I can’t wait to pair with jeans and a matching cardigan this fall. They are available in women’s, men’s, and kids’. Yes, this is a shameless plug.
Knit Sweaters Crochet Style: When the temperature goes down, sweaters are always in style. But, this year I’ve been seeing a lot of lacy style sweaters. Cropped sweaters also seem to be coming back in.
Sweater Dresses: Are so much fun with a pair of cute boots. They are great for work or play.
Sequins and Shine: It isn’t just the holiday dresses that will be sparkling this season, sparkles are everywhere. Sequin blazers are going to be huge.
Lace Up Boots: Many women’s shoes are mirroring men’s shoe styles. Boots inspired by men’s work boots are a fall staple. I have a also been seeing a lot of western style boots again this fall season.
Missoni for Target Throw: I can’t think of anything better than curling up to your favorite show surrounded by a warm and stylish Missoni blanket.
Colored Jeans: By the end of this season, I guarantee that I will be the proud owner of a pair of purple jeans.
Plaid Shirts are Back: Break out your plaid button-ups again because this style is sticking around for another season.
