New Year, New Beauty!

2016 is just around the corner and one of the best ways to celebrate a New Year is to treat yourself to something nice. I’ve always found that buying yourself a new beauty product is one of the most affordable and glam ways to ring in the New Year.

Since New Year’s Resolutions often involve eating less, spending less or depriving yourself of one thing or another, doing a little something for yourself is a great way to offset a less fun resolution. So hit up your local Sephora, Ulta or drug store and get yourself something nice.

Getting your New Year’s beauty on doesn’t always mean splurging or going over budget. I’ve found lower priced products that are almost identical to their higher end counterparts. For example, Maybelline Volum’ Express The Falsies Push Up Drama Mascara priced at around $9.49 produces similarly fabulous results to my all time favorite Tarte Lights, Camera, Flashes Statement Mascara that goes for around $23.00. If you can’t afford to pay $54 for the Urban Decay Naked3 eyeshadow palette, simply pick up a Maybelline The Blushed Nudes Palette for just $9.99. I’ve used both mascaras and both palettes and know from experience that they will give you similar if not identical results.

Even just getting yourself a new nail polish or a Birchbox subscription can get your year off to the right start.  If you’re happy with all the new products you got for the holidays, then why not get yourself a new makeup case to help you move forward with your New Year’s Resolution to travel more? Get ready to get glam!

Eyes Redefined with Chanel Les 4 Ombres Eyeshadow Quads and InStyle Magazine

Chanel Les 4 Ombres

Just in time for the September runway shows across New York, London, Paris and Milan, Chanel released a new collection of Les 4 Ombres eyeshadow quads inspired by their iconic tweeds. In order to celebrate these amazing shades in way only fitting of Chanel, I set off to the makeup counter at the 59th St. Bloomingdale’s to style my eyes with InStyle Beauty Director, Kahlana Barfield and Chanel National Makeup Artists (NMAs) John Fussell and Sterling Williams.

Using the Les 4 Ombres Quadra in Tissé Vénitien, Chanel Ebene Eyeliner and Le Volume de Chanel Noir Mascara,  the incredibly talented Chanel makeup artist Reanna Godfrey (ask for her at Bloomingdale’s), transformed my eyes into the ultimate smokey eye look. The green hues in the Tissé Vénitien quad, put a nautical spin on the traditional smokey eye. I even mentioned feeling like a mermaid at one point. When the look was complete, Chanel National Makeup Artist John Fussell pointed out that the colors in the palette matched the vibrants blues and greens in my eyes perfectly. So in a magical way, it was almost like they never closed even when I blinked.

As a blue eyed girl, I’m always looking for new ways to bring out my unique eye color and nothing beats Chanel’s beautifuly long-lasting shades. While the must-have Le Volume de Chanel Mascara made my lashes thicker than ever, Chanel Les 4 Ombres quads give you endless options to blend the hues together for an array of stunning looks.

How to Get the Perfect Smokey Eye

Like everyone else, I have my own personal insecurities. However, I absolutely love having blue eyes so it’s no wonder I’ve become such an expert on the smokey eye which is smoking hot with any eye color. Though the smokey eye is traditionally an evening look, I’m a strong believer in adding a little smokey eye makeup to a daytime look too.

Follow these 3 steps for the perfect socialite smokey eye:

1.  Start with a good base: Every great makeup look begins with a good base.  Wash your face and apply moisturizer prior to applying foundation, concealer, powder, and blush.  Having moisturizer under your foundation not only gives your skin some much-needed moisture and SPF (great for preventing wrinkles), it will also prevent your pores from absorbing your makeup.

2.  Apply dark shadows: The ultimate secret to any fabulous makeup look is to Blend, Blend, Blend!  I can not stress that enough.  I love to blend different colors and brands of makeup into a look that is all my own.  Start with a lighter grey or silver eyeshadow as a base and apply darker and darker shades on top blending each shade on top of the other.  For a more dramatic look, use a darker shade along the top of the lid.

3.  Black eyeliner: This is by far my favorite part of the process!  To get the perfect smokey eye, you must use liquid eyeliner.  Since blending is the big secret, I like to start with the liquid liner as a base and use a black eye pencil over it.  Always use both liquid and regular liners on the top and bottom of the eye.  If you mess up (which happens often) just take a q-tip with a tiny bit of makeup remover on it and (you guessed it) start blending.  Top it off with your favorite mascara and you’re ready to take over the world.

Socialite Beauty

Every socialite or aspiring celebrity dreams of having their own beauty and/or fashion empire.  Who knows what fragrances, cosmetic lines, and fabulous fashion collaborations could be in my future?  When I came across the Sephora Collection Monopoly Edition, I thought it was something every Aspiring Socialite should have.  Games are excellent practice for real life.  This version of the classic Monopoly board game is not only adorable, it serves as a simulated version of your future beauty empire allowing players to stock their stores with beauty essentials, hire store directors, and pay for it all with Beauty Bucks.  On the downside, you do go to jail for bad hairdays.

I’ve long been an avid makeup wearer.  I think it all started at the age of 12 when in a desperate attempt to cover up my horrible acne I learned everything I possibly could about makeup.  Though my acne was eventually eliminated with the help of a dermatologist, in the process of engrossing myself in all things beauty, I perfected the smokey eye technique that I still use today to illuminate my blue eyes.  I also developed a steady hand for liquid eyeliner.  As a teenager, I refused to leave the house without makeup, even if it was just to go to the grocery store.  But, as I grew more secure in college, my love for makeup remained strong, but my need for its constant companionship disappeared.

Enter to Win Your Own Birchbox!

Socialites haven’t been known to skimp on anything, especially not cosmetics. Until now, only your makeup artist could tell you which beauty products were worth the investment. As an online influencer/semi-New York City Socialite, I am constantly getting samples of the newest products.  I used to think it was impossible to sample everything, but I was wrong.  For $10 a month, you can get a Birchbox sent to you containing samples of some of the most high end cosmetic, beauty, and personal care products.  Every month even has a different theme.  It’s kind of like sending yourself a gift once a month, only it is actually a surprise.  If you like the products, you can purchase them directly on the Birchbox website and even earn points toward your favorite beauty finds.

Since it is always the socialite way to share the wealth, I am giving away a Birchbox to one lucky reader!  To win, comment on this post telling me the name of your favorite beauty product.  Be sure to include your email address. To learn more about how a Birchbox subscription works, tune into this video.  It’s pink!
