We Should Have Been Models

Spontaneous photo shoots are good for the soul.  They can be done alone, with a friend, or in a group.  If you’re having an insanely bad day or an insanely good day, they are the perfect pastime to use as a means of rediscovering your inner model.  On a bad day, however, your photos may be a little more artistic and emo in reflection of your mood.  My friend Amy and I rediscovered our inner models over the weekend and it was a beautiful thing!

Taking casual photos also serves as great practice for being photographed by the paparazzi.  Every socialite has to be comfortable around multiple cameras.  This particular photo shoot is so Zooey Deschanel meets Rachel McAdams.  Like Cher epically reminded us in the movie Clueless which is required socialite viewing, you can’t trust mirrors so you always need to take a picture of that day’s look.  Thanks to digital photography, you don’t have to use polaroids like they did for instant photo gratification in 1995.  These photos were taken on Photo Booth software which only further brings out the magic of Apple technology even more.  Maybe next time we’ll dig up a Cher style polaroid camera for the sake of nostalgia.

Karl Lagerfeld for Macy’s Impulse Exclusive Preview

Macy’s Impulse is coming out with yet another line this time by famous fashion man Karl Lagerfeld who tweeted today that, “Luxury is the ease of a t-shirt in a very expensive dress.”  I for one could not agree more with that statement.   Predominantly filled with different shades of pink and black, Lagerfeld’s Macy’s line adds a socialite flare to an office ready outfit.  These looks combined with comfortable fabrics will have you feeling business casual when you are actually business dressy.  Besides, it never hurts to wear something that says “Karl Lagerfeld” on the tag.

In honor of this new very flirty Fall 2011 Capsule Collection that of course I got to preview before anyone else, I ventured downtown to the Yellow Korner on Wooster St. where the clothes were being shown on live models.   Aspiring Socialites are always looking for new ways to bring the socialite life into their everyday activities.   Karl Lagerfeld’s Impulse collection for Macy’s is line that shares that vision.  These outfits are Happy Hour chic while still being completely Midtown office appropriate, a must if you are going to live the Manhattan double life.  If there weren’t enough people already in Manhattan, many of us also seem to lead multiple lives comprised of commonplace office work by day and A-list parties by night.  I guess that explains why I am always so busy.

This 45-piece collection is set to hit Macy’s stores on August 31st. Lagerfeld described the collection to Vogue as “a coup d’oeil to the dresses I designed for Chloe and the girlish, more romantic mood of the seventies.”

Love this pink and black color combo seem throughout the collection.  This my favorite outfit in the line by far.  It’s very office chic.

Front Row at the Express 2011 Holiday Collection Preview in Times Square

Socialites are no strangers to finding themselves front row at major fashion shows. Thanks to the generous invite of Lucky Magazine and Express, I found myself front row at Express’ 2011 Holiday Collection Preview in Times Square just a few feet away from Catherine Malandrino. Prior to showing their holiday collection, Express broke a record earlier that day for the biggest fashion show ever setting a world record for the most people to walk down a runway.

Before the show, seven other bloggers including My Visa Hates Me, Pretty Connected, Court and Hudson, MissWhoever You Are, Sweet Caroline in the City, Diary of a Fashion Addict, The Budget Babe, and I were invited to the penthouse of the Muse Hotel for some pre-runway drinks and makeup touch ups with Pre-Dame. I absolutely loved the makeup they chose for me complimented by my first set of false eyelashes, which were perfect for the occasion. After getting glam at The Muse, we were off to the heart of Times Square for some backstage access into the show. I have to say that this was the hottest runway show I have ever been to in far more ways than one. In the mist of a heat wave, the models flawlessly walked down the runway in this year’s winter fashions and holiday dresses. The energy was absolutely amazing and I am so honored to have been chosen to be a part of it.

Socialites love bling and this skirt has it!

Express’ Holiday 2011 Collection is full of sparkle.  Prefect for holiday party dresses.

Love the blue in the skirt and of course the sparkles in the top.

Can you spot Catherine Malandrino?
