The Importance of Staycations

Vacations are awesome. There’s truly nothing better than exploring a new place or relaxing on the beach for a week. However, the hard truth is that we can’t always afford to or have time to go on vacation. That’s where the staycation comes in. A staycation is basically a vacation from everyday life without the time and the hassle of actually traveling somewhere else. When you think about it a staycation is the best of both worlds as it provides all the relaxation of a vacation without the stress that comes with actually getting there.

My Staycation

Going on a staycation can be as easy as hosting a BBQ in your backyard or going on a long hike at a nearby trail. When you live in a big city like New York you often find yourself staying in the same neighborhood and going to the same places time and time again. So I like to use my staycation time to get out of my neighborhood and borough and discover new parts of the city. During the summer, I like to visit The Rockaways in Queens or go all the way uptown to The Cloisters. There are some awesome beaches in The Rockaways. I still can’t believe that you can take the subway there. It’s almost like being on the Jersey Shore rather than New York City. There’s even a genuine Venezuelan arepa bar right on the beach.

The Outfit

My casual chic staycation outfit consists of a V-neck Coffee Days Graphic Tee from Express, White Skinny Jeans, My signature Rebecca Minkoff Love Cross Body Bag and
Fuchsia Ankle Strap Single Sole High Heels from Ami Club Wear. I topped this summer weekend look off with my Betsey Johnson Octogoing Out Today Tortoise Sunglasses which as some of the most unique sunnies I’ve ever owned. I’m also sporting Naughty Nautical Nail Polish by Essie which is one of my favorite summer colors.

Winter Glamour in Central Park

Bebe Winter Fashion

There’s nothing more glamours than freshly fallen snow in Central Park.  Recently Winter Storm Jonas turned it into a magical winter destination clad in over two feet of snow. When walking through the park the day after the storm, I felt like I was vacationing at a ski resort in Aspen rather than strolling through Midtown Manhattan.

Seeing a beautiful snow-filled Central Park inspired me to put together an outfit worthy of the Aspen slopes. When I saw this Faux Fur Collar Ruana from Bebe I knew I had to have it!  I then paired it with my fav pair of Dark Mid Rise Skinny Jeans from Express, a basic Women’s Camis Best Loved Bra Cami also from Express and a pair of Cougar Boots. The purse is vintage. It was my Mom’s in the 70s.

The necklace is from Rocksbox, a subscription service where a stylist provides you with unlimited jewelry samples for $19 a month. You can buy the pieces you want just by holding onto them and send back what you don’t. It’s basically the Birchbox of jewelry.  Sign up using the code “aspiringsocialitexoxo” and you can get one month free. Renting jewelry is truly the way of the future.

I can’t wait for another big blizzard to hit!

Rad in Plaid

The streets of New York are paved in fashion and during the colder months, bright plaid shirts are a style staple. I love red plaid button ups because they’re perfect for both fall and the holidays.

In honor of my favorite “chill in the air” trend, I headed downtown in my Express Women’s Red and Black Check Plaid Oversized ShirtWomen’s Ponte Knit Five-pocket Pants and Black Faux Suede and Fur Vest. I paired them with a comfy chic pair of Dr. Scholl’s Women’s Izadora Boots and my prize Rebecca Minkoff Crossbody that I picked up at a sample sale.

Fall Fringe and Warby Parker

For me, fashion is serious business. So I put together an ultra sophisticated fall look with some of my favorite pieces from Warby Parker and Express. Then I headed to Williamsburg in Brooklyn for some more Autumn-inspired elegance.

Most of you probably haven’t seen me in glasses before because I’m a part time glasses wearer. I need them to drive and to see things far away. But even if I didn’t need them I would still totally head over to Warby Parker and pick out a pair because their styles are all so cute and classic. The frames that fit me best were Oliver in Whiskey Tortoise. I always feel ultra chic and smart when I wear them.

I’ve wanted a fringe skirt for a while now. So when I saw this Faux Suede Fringed Wrap Pencil Skirt at Express, I knew I had to have it. While it’s conservative length and suede look give it sophistication, the fringe makes it fun and exciting to wear. The way it moves when you walk just makes you feel amazing. I paired it with a Black Turtle Neck, V-stitch Textured Bowler Bag and Hue Super Opaque Tights.

Boho Chic Fall Fashion

In the Northeast, transitioning your wardrobe into fall and eventually winter is no simple task. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve put all of my summer clothes neatly away only to come head to head with an 80 degree day in late October. So I’ve since learned to transition into fall slowly and stylishly.

Part of making a slow stylish transition into the colder months is to pair your new fall pieces with your summer favorites. For this fab pre-fall look, I combined my new Old Navy Felt Floppy Hat and Old Navy T Strap Platform Clogs with an Aztec Print Dress from Express. The long sleeves give it a fall look while the short length keeps things comfortable should the temperatures hit the high 70s.

I love the floppy hat look for fall, but the wool hats will usually run you well over $50. With this Felt Floppy Hat from Old Navy, you can get this must have fall look for less than $20.
