A Very Plaid Winter

I was pleasantly surprised to see that the craze for plaid blouses and shirtdresses have made their way from last winter into this one.  From Bloomingdales to Forever 21, rustic-inspired plaids have returned to the mainstream to keep us warm and stylish as the temperature drops.  If you still think plaids are only for lumberjacks, remember that in high society nothing is ever as it seems.  After all, a rustic Adirondack vacation in a so-called “log cabin” can have all the features of a 5-star hotel and more.  For this reason, us New Yorkers choose to accompany plaids with our choice of leggings or skinny jeans tucked into over the knee boots.  This uniquely spun mix of the metropolitan and the provincial is quickly becoming a classic among prepsters.  I personally am in the market for a festive red plaid shirtdress to wear at my appearances at this year’s holiday parties.

For those of you looking to add a new plaid shirtdress to your wardrobe, consider this Gauze Plaid Shirt Dress (pictured left) by kensie on sale for only $39.00.

Dorky Fashion: Social Network Sneakers by Adidas

I know these shoes are flat and on top of that they are sneakers.  If you are expecting to find Prada or Louis Vuitton please go to another post immediately because it is all flip flops and hoodies here.  In a world dominated by social networking, divas have essentially become dorks.  My dorky side is completely obsessed with Adidas new line of social network themed sneakers.  The “you can’t buy just one pair of shoes” rule totally applies here because as a blogger aspiring to online fame, I am almost always on Facebook and Twitter at the same time promoting my ever so glamorous socialite agenda.  Therefore, I need both pairs of shoes to accurately express my daily life.  If I really wanted to take a major fashion risk I could purposely mismatch my shoes wearing a different one on either foot stylishly expressing the act of constantly being on two social networks at once.  Who knows?  That look could go viral and become the next fashion craze.  It is ironic that in the mist of my determined pursuit of high fashion and leisure, I rediscovered my inner geek.  The other day, I even wrote I line of code as I watched the epic movie, Troy, and drank a Red Bull which is a total geek move if you ask me.  I also plan on reading The Facebook Effect in the hope that it will help me think more like an Internet entrepreneur.  Just as every fashionista should know their Coach from their Gucci they should also know their HTML from their JavaScript.

Holiday Shopping at SCOOP NYC

It is time to keep aspiring.  According to the news, a second downturn may soon disrupt our economic recovery.  Fear not socialites because I predict the after Christmas sales this year are going to be better than ever.  Last weekend I raised my glass to the fallen socialites of the last century as I shopped over champagne in the Meatpacking District at SCOOP NYC.  Surrounded by Marc Jacobs bags, designer jeans, and tall couture boots I had a truly iconic shopping experience.  Every digital diva needs the most stylish tech accessories and I am head over heels for this Marc Jacobs computer case complete with pink bows (pictured left.)  As an Aspiring Socialite, I must always seek to entertain and be entertained.  Therefore, the shopping experience is a vital part of my everyday life. At SCOOP, I was reminded of Glee when the NYU A Cappella group, the N’Harmonics, gave an excellent performance at the storefront.  Hoping for a new Marc Jacobs bag in the near future to accessorize the song in my heart.  Happy Shopping!

Burlesque has Nothing on Black Swan

A socialite is first and foremost a performer who lives to entertain and be entertained.  It isn’t talent that drives us, but mere stage presence that makes a socialite unforgettable.  As a teenager, I aspired to become a ballerina.  However, after realizing the immense competition and facing the fact that I couldn’t keep count with the music, I formed a new more reasonable goal of becoming the next great American socialite.  I hate to say it, but I am in no hurry to see Burlesque.  Christina Aguilera may have an excellent voice, but we have all heard the story many times over of the naive small town girl who moves to the big city to pursue a career in the performing arts.  Just because you add Cher, doesn’t make this overdone cliche any different.

My dark side of repressed aspiring ballerina dreams has been anticipating today’s premiere of Black Swan starring Natalie Portman and Mila Kunis as rival ballerinas.  In this psychological thriller that also contains a touch of the dark glamour of the stage, Nina (Natalie Portman) and Lily (Mila Kunis) go from dancing rivals to sharing a deranged bi-curious friendship.  As the story progresses, the once innocent Nina begins to explore her dark side that spirals completely out of control.  Aside from the never-ending battle with duality, Black Swan also focuses on the endless pursuit of perfection, a completely unattainable goal shared by both socialites and prima ballerinas.
