Taylor Momsen Needs to Chill

On tonight’s episode of Gossip Girl, I witnessed the aftermath of the masquerade ball in which the vengeful masters of disguise Jenny Humphrey (Taylor Momsen,) Vanessa Abrams (Jessica Szohr,) and Juliet (Katie Cassidy) turned everyone against Serena van der Woodsen (Blake Lively.)  I guess when good girls go bad, they go really bad. Unfortunately, Taylor Momsen is no exception to this rule. Perhaps, you remember her as a fresh-faced teen playing an innocent Jenny Humphrey, a Brooklyn girl looking to fit in at an Upper East Side prep school, on the first season of Gossip Girl.  Look even further back to the year 2000 and you will find an ultra-innocent Taylor Momson playing the adorable Cindy Lou Who opposite Jim Carrey in The Grinch.

It looks like the Grinch has grow tired to stealing Christmas and came back to steal Taylor Momson soul leaving her with nothing but, permanently corrupted eye makeup and very bad hair extensions. But, it isn’t just her fashion scene that has gone bad; Taylor Momsen’s diva attitude has made her enemies in high places. Earlier this year the actress had it out with fashion expert, Tim Gunn. After appearing together on an episode of Gossip Girl. Tim Gunn claims that Taylor Momsen was constantly on her BlackBerry and rarely remembered her lines. In reference to the tediousness of filming the episode he said, “I thought to myself ‘why are we all being held hostage by this brat?” Well Mr.Gunn, she now looks scary enough to hold anybody hostage. I miss the old Taylor Momsen.

This Thanksgiving Give the Vegetarians a Seat at the Table

Happy Thanksgiving and safe travels to all. This year I am thankful for the people who make it a point to remember the vegetarians sitting at their table. As an aspiring socialite I am not only picky about my style, I also pay very close attention to the food I ingest. I am sad to say that I have spent numerous Thanksgivings eating nothing, but chex mix and dinner rolls while the carnivores feasted. But, thanks to my understanding family who have grown to know me a bit too well, my vegetarian ways and I now have a seat at the table.

Vegetarian food doesn’t have to cramp your style this holiday season. We don’t want you to do away with the turkey we just want options. It is actually very simple to integrate vegetarian options into your meal. If a salad is being presented and it includes meat, keep it on the side giving your guests the choice of adding it or not. Do not add substances such as bacon to the mashed potatoes unless you have made two batches, one with and one without bacon. If you insist on adding chicken stock or some other kind of animal product to the stuffing let your vegetarian guests know to steer clear of it. Other comfort foods that fit in with the Thanksgiving theme include macaroni and cheese or a spinach dish. These are sides your entire table can enjoy that act as the primary dish for your often excluded vegetarian guests. So show the vegetarians in your life some love this holiday season and they just may spend more money than they planned on your Christmas gift. It’s good karma.

Congratulations to Prince William & Kate Middleton!

Now that my blog redesign is nearly finished, I finally have the chance to congratulate the recently engaged Prince William and Kate Middleton.  This adorable couple that go beyond socialite status into the realm of royalty, are surprisingly down to earth.  Much can be said about Miss Middleton’s Sloane Ranger style inspired by the boutiques of London’s Chelsea district. As an American fashionista, I have become obsessed with Kate’s glamorous hats that the royal wedding has yet to cross my mind.  Next time I attend a formal event, I will be sure to follow in Kate Middleton’s footsteps with an eye-catching hat.

However, as this newly engaged beauty has already discovered, haute is the head that wears the hat and heavy is the head that wears the crown.  Kate must really love with William to put up with all of the uncalled for cruelty of the British press and constant comparisons to the late Princess Diana.  As any great public figure should, Kate has handled the scrutiny of the public with a form of class that shines even brighter than her stunning engagement ring.  Hearts may be breaking all over the world, but I could not be happier for this lovely couple.  The only thing that is getting to me is that neither of them are on Twitter.  I don’t know about you, but I am craving some live tweeting straight from Buckingham Palace.

To UGG or Not to UGG? That is the Question

November is upon us making it officially winter coat and boot weather.  Though socialites may be able to buy an endless supply of stylishly warm boots to be worn over leggings and skinny jeans, no amount of privilege can keep you away from the winter winds.  But, when it comes to staying warm and stylish during this time of year, every fashionista must ask themselves this same age old or should I say New Age question: Are UGGs hot or not? Though the brand has evolved from the Classic Tall and Short, to dressier styles such as the Highkoo II that I currently have my eye on, UGG will always possess the elements of casual luxury.  I am also in the market for a warm pair of moccasins.

Though some say that UGGs have gone out of style, I completely disagree.  However, I am bias having graduated from Syracuse University where UGGs allowed me to keep my toes from frostbite during the bitterly cold, yet beautiful white winters, I believe that feelings warm and snug will always be in style.  Plus, every UGG boot you see plays homage to their early adopters iconic socialites, Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie.  As a result of UGG’s recent collaboration with Jimmy Choo, now you can have the best of both words.  Tamara Mellon, Founder and Chief Creative Officer of Jimmy Choo revealed that the only shoes she has in her wardrobe besides Jimmy Choos are UGGs.  This genius collaboration is the ultimate combination of comfort and glitz.  So go ahead, UGG it out.

This Halloween Save the Black Cats

I’m really more of a dog person, but in case you haven’t heard I will be going as a Glam Cat this Halloween which is basically a black cat with lots of jewelry and sequins.  I guess the black cat costume is the little black dress of Halloween.  While costumes such as Lady Gaga, Sarah Palin, or the Mad Men characters may lose their allure in the years to come the black cat will be with us always.  To set the record straight, however, my costume choice was not a result of a lack of creativity.

As a vegetarian and animal rights advocate, I was very sad to hear that blacks cats are only half as likely to be adopted due to stigma and superstitions. Therefore, I am going as a black cat in support of the Black Cat Rescue, a no-kill animal shelter out of Boston that saves the lives of homeless black cats by finding them foster and adoptive homes.  Like my furry friends, socialites are often under scrutiny.  So this is really the perfect Halloween costume for me.  Stay tuned for pictures of me as a Glam Cat partying are various NYC sites including the parade in Soho. Happy Halloweekend Socialites!
