I once heard a quote that said “Life isn’t about waiting for the storm to pass. It’s about learning to dance in the rain.” Having lived in NYC for the past few years, I’m certain that nothing could be more true.
While the New York life can often seem glamourous through the eyes of an outsider, being a New Yorker means that curveballs are constantly going to be thrown at you. So I’ve learned to enjoy walking in the rain, especially if my rainy walks are in the West Village. It’s just beautiful there.
Fall is hands down the best time of year to be in New York City. Between the cool, yet comfortable air, changing leaves and holiday finds just entering the stores, you simply can’t beat Autumn in New York. A while ago, I came across this fab fall trench by bebe at a random store on 45th St. At the time, I was holding off on buying a trench coat until I found one that made me feel like I was strolling through the streets of London and this was it. I just love how the contrasting sleeves and asymmetrical zipper make it one of the most fun and unique pieces in my wardrobe.
What I love most about fall is breaking out my skinny jeans, boots and light sweaters. The comfortable chill in the air, gets me thinking about Halloween and apple cider. The changing leaves also play a huge role in my style choices during the fall months. In celebration of fall, here’s my shopping list of fab fall fashions:
1. House Of Harlow 1960 Tribal Tooth Pendant: Tribal styles are a great way to take your fall style to the next level. Not only are the patterns unique, they also mimic the changing leaves perfectly.
3. Camel Detachable Fur Lined Hood Contrast Trims Cape: I’ve always wanted a cape and this one is to die for! Fall is the best time to wear capes as they can be a stylish alternative to a light jacket. With winter being so cold, they often get covered up. So take the opportunity to show them off during fall.
4. Sephora Favorites Draw The Line: I love black eyeliner, especially liquid. However, I don’t wear it much in the summer because the heat often melts it off. So in the fall, I kind of go crazy with the liner.
5. Vince Camuto ‘Karita’ Over the Knee Boots: There’s nothing sexier for fall than over the knee boots. Aside from being sexy, they keep you warm and go with anything. With all the walking I do around NYC, I wore out my old pair last year. I’m dying to get these.
Summer trends are staying bright this fall. When T.J.Maxx and Marshalls sent out fashion blogger, Karen Blanchard, of Where Did U Get That to capture the #1 trend taking over the city, she found that showstopping neon shades will be sticking around in full force this fall. To celebrate neon for fall, T.J.Maxx and Marshalls sent me out to discover fabulous fall neons in their stores. Here’s what I found:
Love these neon on black Vivienne Tam cardigans. Neons always go best with dark colors, especially black and navy blue. These are perfect to layer for fall.
Obsessed with these dark skinny Hudson Jeans taking on the neon trend with bright orange stripes down the sides. They’d go great with flats or pumps.
Layer your fall neons with cardigans or blazers to make them pop.
Yellow isn’t just for summer. As the leaves change color, use neon yellow accessories to brighten up your fall wardrobe.
Disclaimer: I was given two T.J. Maxx and Marshalls gift cards.
I love summer, but I could do without the humidity. Plus, I really miss wearing boots over jeans or leggings in the comfortably brisk fall air. So why not make room for a quick fall flashback? Here I am playing in the New England woods with a dog named Lili. Can’t wait for Fashion Week in September!
