Happy Gossip Girl Day!

Gossip Girl Style Fashion

Three years ago today, Mayor Bloomberg celebrated the 100th episode of Gossip Girl by declaring January 26th Gossip Girl Day. In honor of the occasion, I put together a look inspired by the ever controversial Jenny Humphrey and shot it on my Manhattan rooftop.

About the Look

After much debate, I chose to capture Jenny Humphrey’s style because her many transitions in and out of high society truly capture the spirit of the Aspiring Socialite. Though I didn’t always agree with her choices throughout the show, she proved to us all that even a girl from the most humble means can become the ultimate Upper East Side queen bee. This look was super simple to put together. I wore a grey sweater dress, black leggings, plaid schoolgirl knee socks (from an old schoolgirl Halloween costume) and black wedges. To get Jenny’s dark makeup look I used Kat Von D Ink Liner.

My Favorite Gossip Girl Moment

My favorite Gossip Girl moment of all time was in Season 1, Episode 12 when they broke into the school and threw a booze-filled pool party. I also loved all the times Serena got cases of champagne delivered to her at school and the many occasions in which Jenny outsmarted Blair.

A Day at the New Museum of Contemporary Art

NYC rooftop New Museum

Over the weekend, my Dad and I spent an amazing day downtown at The New Museum of Contemporary Art. Our self-guided tour began on the second floor with stunning paintings by the English Turner Prize-winning painter, Chris Ofili. His stunning works of art featuring intricate layers of breathtaking colors, patterns and even glitter depicted everything from pop culture to epic poems. I was most taken by Ofili’s ability to tell a story and his various portrayals of women. The tour ended on the roof deck with a beautiful view of the city landscape which is always an exhibition within itself.

Call it classy or call it bizarre, but my Dad and I often bond over contemporary and conceptual art. While I can walk by a Picasso or Monet without feeling a thing, the themes, feelings and social issues contemporary pieces explore evoke intense thought and emotion. I hope to someday be a collector.

New Year’s Eve 2015 in Times Square

New Year's Times Square

Last night I said goodbye to 2014 and hello to 2015 in Times Square with my boyfriend and his family. Though watching the ball drop at home is always exciting, there’s nothing like seeing the New Year’s Eve countdown in person and feeling the confetti fall all around you at midnight. Everyone should do it at least once.

As I relax at home on New Year’s Day, I can’t wait to see what 2015 has in store. I hope it brings with it my first 5K run, a trip to the west coast with my boyfriend and many other happy surprises. Happy New Year Socialites!

Being Touristy!

tourist

For two years running, my Mom has come up for Delaware to New York City for her birthday. I guess now you can call it a tradition. This year, we decided to be super touristy and take both a bus and boat tour of Manhattan. I would absolutely recommend the boat tour or at least taking a boat cruise around the Hudson River (which I plan to try next). However, the bus tour was at best okay. Even as a tourist you see most of the places walking anyway and the tour guide was super annoying. What I liked most about the boat tour is that you could see the city from a whole new prepective and get see the Statue of Liberty up close at sunset.

Macarons in the Window

Laduree

With their bright colors and fancy packaging, macarons by far one of the most stylish sweets. So it’s no wonder they’re at almost every fashion event alongside cupcakes and champagne. When I came across the famous Ladurée luxury French bakery on West Broadway, I was hypnotized by the beautiful sweets in the window. Judging from this display, these double-decker macarons that sell at a rate of 15,000 a day, are enough to make any girl feel like they are in the company of Marie Antoinette or Blair Waldorf.
