A Rainy Day in the West Village

I once heard a quote that said “Life isn’t about waiting for the storm to pass. It’s about learning to dance in the rain.” Having lived in NYC for the past few years, I’m certain that nothing could be more true.

West Village NYC Rainy Day

While the New York life can often seem glamourous through the eyes of an outsider, being a New Yorker means that curveballs are constantly going to be thrown at you. So I’ve learned to enjoy walking in the rain, especially if my rainy walks are in the West Village. It’s just beautiful there.

Catching up with my Bestie in Bryant Park

I’ve been BFFs with my friend Marie since the 1st grade. Over the weekend she took a spontaneous trip to New York and we met up for coffee Sunday morning in Bryant Park.

BFF Besties

While I rarely get homesick for my hometown of Wilmington, Delaware, there are certain people that I miss with all my heart. Luckily, I’ll be in Wilmington next weekend and will get to see Marie all over again. Thank goodness for best friends and summer!

A Saturday in Rockaway Beach

No, I didn’t go away on vacation. In fact, I stayed in NYC all weekend. Believe it or not, what you’re looking at is Rockaway Beach in Queens. Who knew that there was a genuine surfer beach town right here in NYC? I’ve been spending all of my free weekends there this summer and I still can’t believe that there’s a such a beautiful beach just a subway ride away. Now I know exactly what the Ramones were talking about when the sung about catching a ride to Rockaway Beach.

To get there, just take the A train headed to Far Rockaway – Mott Ave. Get off at the Broad Channel stop and then take the shuttle to the beaches. If you’re looking to play off the beach, I recommend checking out the Playland Motel and Caracas Arepa Bar. Needless to say, I’m going back to my summer hideaway ASAP!

A Beautiful Weekend in New York

High Line Park New York City Spring Flowers

Over the weekend, my Mom came to visit me in New York. Together we enjoyed two of the first nice days Manhattan has seen in months. After a couple mimosa-filled brunches, we explored The High Line and Central Park. According to my Mom’s Jawbone, we burned tons of calories with all the walking we did. While it’s sad to see a beautiful weekend end, I know there will be many more to come.

New York City Blackout

NYC Blackout

In New York City everyone always seems to be wearing black. Though this seemingly eternal trend transcends seasons, it’s most apparent in the winter. Personally, I love wearing black. Not only is it slimming, but it never fails to give you a classically dressy look that can be worn to almost any event or occasion. While it’s fun to play with color, black can take you from the office, to dinner and finally to drinks at the club without ever having to change. After all, what New Yorker has time to change?

To get this New York girl boss look I wore LC Lauren Conrad Seamed Knit Pants, a black cami, a fitted blazer, a black wool floppy hat and Cliffs by White Mountain Women’s Frame Boots.
