A Late Afternoon in Central Park

When you are aspiring in the city that never sleeps, time goes by even faster than you could ever imagine. Summer is coming to an end and it will soon be time for stylish boots, scarves, and long sweaters over leggings. Lately, I have spent my time taking in every last ray of sunshine on Central Park’s green. Yesterday was such a beautiful day that by late afternoon I could stay in my apartment no longer and ventured to Central Park to read magazines and drink an iced coffee in the glorious weather. I even skipped the subway and walked the 20 blocks to my destination.

I could not have made a better decision.  The late afternoon sun was warm and welcoming not at all overbearing like it might have been at noon.  I sat there on a beach towel drinking a Starbucks and reading Ladies Home Journal felling like a true New York socialite.  I then decided that I needed to capture this wonderful moment for posterity.  Finding myself in the best of both worlds surrounded by trees and grass with beautiful buildings in the distance, I took out my camera and began snapping pictures of myself on the lawn.  A self-absorbed move?  Maybe.  But, I couldn’t be happier with how the pictures came out.  I guess even socialites can enjoy the simple pleasures of alone time. What do you do to get away without ever leaving home?

A serious socialite

A lovely day in New York

Maine Meets Manhattan!

As you probably already knew, I ventured off to Maine this past week to live the Socialite Simple Life in the lakeside woods of Lake Pemaquid Campground. I am pleased to announce that I have returned to civilization completely relaxed and three shades darker. My Maine tan is a result of an elite combination of tubing and tanning on the lake everyday, two activities that I highly recommend. The Hamptons may be “The Scene,” but Maine is “Scenic.” Like any great Manhattan socialite, I focused less on the typical simple life activities such as cooking over an open fire and spent the majority of the week floating around a surprisingly warm lake surrounded by trees, wildlife, and sunshine.

Just as in Manhattan, my mornings always involved a mimosa. I guess you can say that the part of my heart that I didn’t leave at the Chanel store in Soho I left in Maine. Though socialites may not often vacation at the campgrounds of the world, I find them to have an element of Savage Beauty (Alexander McQueen reference) that intrigues me. Though I will miss Maine and its chill atmosphere, every socialite must return to Manhattan at some point. Seeing that I have my share of VIP events to attend next week, I am NYC bound.

Even if you are a purely Hamptons socialite, you should still take advice from a loon (it’s a really cool bird that swims under the water.)

What’s your story this summer? How are you living the socialite life?

The Socialite “Simple Life” in Damariscotta, ME

Every socialite needs to get away once in a while to a place where a New York minute is a mere millisecond. Being a socialite is a full time job that is never to be taken lightly often resulting in stress and the loss of sanity.  Therefore, I have ventured far away from New York city to my favorite childhood vacation destination, Lake Pemaquid in Damariscotta, ME. The trip began on a rainy evening in New York City where I waited in a horrible rainstorm for a bus to Boston that was an hour late. As I waiting freezing in the rain only to sit for four hours an on overly air conditioned bus, I thought the trip be a disaster. But, everything became brighter the next morning in the warm New England sun as my dad and I drove up to Maine with the sailboat in tow. So here I am at one of the most scenic lakes in Maine enjoying what we all like to call “The Simple Life”

Though I plan on enjoying the scenic views in Maine, I refuse to fish or eat lobster because that’s mean. Just like Paris and Nicole in The Simple Life, I am giving up rooftop bars and shopping sprees, for campfire and quiet days by the lake. But, it’s only for a week. Considering that I am staying in a lag cabin, it’s not exactly camping. However, for a socialite, this absolutely would be considered roughing it. Stay tuned for my “Simple Life” adventure here in the woods of Maine.

Coffee Break!

I love the view of Lake Pemaquid in Damariscotta, ME. It’s what always keeps me coming back for more.

Ivy Club Inspiration

The entire point of an exclusive club is exclusivity. Exclusive clubs line the streets of Midtown bearing the description of a country club without the country.  In the city that never sleeps, there are three tiers of people, those who are members and frequent this elite scene filled with mahogany walls and 1960s charm, those who know the clubs exist, but have yet to catch a glimpse inside, and those who don’t even know they exist.  Days after moving to New York, I became a member of the second tier.  During my first week in NYC sleeping on various friends’ couches, I walked down Park Ave. past the Yale Club on a sizzling late August afternoon.  Seeing that most of my free time was devoted to searching for a job or an apartment (since I had neither,) I rarely had the time to explore the city’s elite venues.  But, on this day I did anyway. After strolling past Grand Central, I shortly ended up in front of the Yale Club of New York and stopped to take a look.  As I stared at the building dreaming of a glamorous future here in the Big Apple, a beautiful bride in a classic white bridal gown pulled up to the Yale Club in an understated black car and I thought, “I’m going to be her today.”

Top 10 Best Places in New York to Enjoy a Starbucks

Starbucks is and always has been a socialite staple. On uneventful mornings that for socialites never begin before 11:30 a.m., your favorite cup of Starbucks coffee is the perfect accessory to carry on the same arm as an oversized designer handbag. For those of you who have read my bio, you already know that I go to Starbucks daily for a Grande Unsweetened Soy Iced Coffee. Like everything in the tabloids, coffee is a great source of controversy. As a friend to some and foe to others, nothing says attitude more than those candid shots of celebs in Us Weekly walking the streets of L.A. or New York with a Starbucks in hand. So here you have it the top 10 places in NYC to enjoy your favorite brew:

10.  In front of the Yale Club: When you are done shopping on 5th Ave, take some time to shop for eligible Ivy Leaguers as you enjoy a coffee. The Harvard and Penn clubs are only a block away.

9.  In the lobby of the Waldorf Astoria: I have always been a fan of the old world style of the guided age and the Waldorf has it.

8. Central Park: It’s cliche, but always fun.

7.  Bloomingdales: Enough said!

6.  The Met Steps: They may have eaten yogurt on the Met steps in Gossip Girl, but I prefer to drink a Starbucks.

5.  14th Street in Meatpacking: I enjoy drinking coffee in the presence of designers such as Alexander McQueen and Yigal Azrouel.

4.  Standing in line at Marquee: Not that I ever stand in line at a club, but if I did, I would totally sip a Grande Soy Iced Coffee as I waited.

3.  Driving in a BMW down Park Ave: It always helps to have the top down.

2.  Strolling the Streets of SoHo: I love going from shop to shop in SoHo sipping on my signature iced coffee.

1.  30+ Stories High: You can’t beat a brew with a view.  Heights aren’t just for heels and the city lights are always brighter from up above.
