A Lovely Morning at Lucky Magazine and Lord & Taylor’s Shop. Eat. Blog. Breakfast

I’ve never been a morning person, but the allure of a Lord & Taylor breakfast shopping spree with Lucky Magazine is enough to get any socialite out of bed before noon. This morning, I began New York Fashion Week with a “Fashion’s Morning In” so to speak at the Lord & Taylor on 424 Fifth Ave. Before the store had even opened its doors to the public, the fashion elite and I were on the second floor drinking coffee and eating pastries discussing shopping strategies with Suze Yalof Schwartz, Lord & Taylor’s Fashion Editor at Large previously the Executive Fashion Editor at Large of Glamour Magazine.

Suze has some great suggestions as to what is in for fall including 3 key fall trends: Shine (sparkles and sequins), Colorblocking, and Bright Colored Jeans. All of which are available this season at Lord & Taylor. For those of you who have trouble getting dressed in the early hours of the morning, she suggests you stock up on dresses to pair with a great bag and a great pair of shoes. That way it is less to think about in the morning. Great advice considering that the earlier I have to wake up, the less fashionable I appear. Many thanks to Lucky Magazine and Lord & Taylor for the invite. I couldn’t think of a better way to begin my Fashion Week.

Early this morning over coffee, Suze Yalof Schwartz taught us how to do the perfect skinny pose, a technique taught to her by supermodel Cindy Crawford.  It’s quite simple really.  You turn your body all the way to the side then turn your front foot toward the camera and your body three quarters of the way to the front so all of your face, but only half of your body is in view of the camera.  Don’t Suze and I look skinny?

Disclaimer: Aspiring Socialite was gifted a $200 Lord & Taylor gift card at this event.

Karl Lagerfeld’s Impulse Collection Hits Macy’s Today

The impressive Karl Lagerfeld for Macy’s Impulse line that I recently previewed will hit stories today. On this day in fashion history, even fashionistas with not so deep pockets such as myself can own something designed by the fashion God. Just found this awesome video of the genius at work. It seems we have a lot in common. Like Mr. Lagerfeld, I don’t like counting, especially when it comes to balancing my finances. This sophisticated limited edition collection is in my opinion, the best of the Impulse lines yet. The next collaboration will be with Giambattista Valli, launching Oct. 26.

Karl Lagerfeld for Macy’s Impulse Exclusive Preview

Macy’s Impulse is coming out with yet another line this time by famous fashion man Karl Lagerfeld who tweeted today that, “Luxury is the ease of a t-shirt in a very expensive dress.”  I for one could not agree more with that statement.   Predominantly filled with different shades of pink and black, Lagerfeld’s Macy’s line adds a socialite flare to an office ready outfit.  These looks combined with comfortable fabrics will have you feeling business casual when you are actually business dressy.  Besides, it never hurts to wear something that says “Karl Lagerfeld” on the tag.

In honor of this new very flirty Fall 2011 Capsule Collection that of course I got to preview before anyone else, I ventured downtown to the Yellow Korner on Wooster St. where the clothes were being shown on live models.   Aspiring Socialites are always looking for new ways to bring the socialite life into their everyday activities.   Karl Lagerfeld’s Impulse collection for Macy’s is line that shares that vision.  These outfits are Happy Hour chic while still being completely Midtown office appropriate, a must if you are going to live the Manhattan double life.  If there weren’t enough people already in Manhattan, many of us also seem to lead multiple lives comprised of commonplace office work by day and A-list parties by night.  I guess that explains why I am always so busy.

This 45-piece collection is set to hit Macy’s stores on August 31st. Lagerfeld described the collection to Vogue as “a coup d’oeil to the dresses I designed for Chloe and the girlish, more romantic mood of the seventies.”

Love this pink and black color combo seem throughout the collection.  This my favorite outfit in the line by far.  It’s very office chic.

More of the collection.

Popping bubbly!  Champagne is a classic part of every fashion event.

A Very Plaid Winter

I was pleasantly surprised to see that the craze for plaid blouses and shirtdresses have made their way from last winter into this one.  From Bloomingdales to Forever 21, rustic-inspired plaids have returned to the mainstream to keep us warm and stylish as the temperature drops.  If you still think plaids are only for lumberjacks, remember that in high society nothing is ever as it seems.  After all, a rustic Adirondack vacation in a so-called “log cabin” can have all the features of a 5-star hotel and more.  For this reason, us New Yorkers choose to accompany plaids with our choice of leggings or skinny jeans tucked into over the knee boots.  This uniquely spun mix of the metropolitan and the provincial is quickly becoming a classic among prepsters.  I personally am in the market for a festive red plaid shirtdress to wear at my appearances at this year’s holiday parties.

For those of you looking to add a new plaid shirtdress to your wardrobe, consider this Gauze Plaid Shirt Dress (pictured left) by kensie on sale for only $39.00.

Holiday Shopping at SCOOP NYC

It is time to keep aspiring.  According to the news, a second downturn may soon disrupt our economic recovery.  Fear not socialites because I predict the after Christmas sales this year are going to be better than ever.  Last weekend I raised my glass to the fallen socialites of the last century as I shopped over champagne in the Meatpacking District at SCOOP NYC.  Surrounded by Marc Jacobs bags, designer jeans, and tall couture boots I had a truly iconic shopping experience.  Every digital diva needs the most stylish tech accessories and I am head over heels for this Marc Jacobs computer case complete with pink bows (pictured left.)  As an Aspiring Socialite, I must always seek to entertain and be entertained.  Therefore, the shopping experience is a vital part of my everyday life. At SCOOP, I was reminded of Glee when the NYU A Cappella group, the N’Harmonics, gave an excellent performance at the storefront.  Hoping for a new Marc Jacobs bag in the near future to accessorize the song in my heart.  Happy Shopping!
