April Fooled By Rebecca Minkoff

Rebecca-Minkoff-Fashion-Designer

I’m a bit naïve and incredibly gullible. So when someone tells me that “Gullible” is written on the ceiling, I usually look up.  Perhaps, always being a wide-eyed innocent will keep me young longer and better than botox.  This morning, Glamour Magazine and Rebecca Minkoff announced over social media that the fashion designer would be joining the cast of Bravo’s Real Housewives of New York City with a Glamour exclusive.  Having forgotten to check that the date was April 1st, I totally believed it!  I event tweeted a congratulations which a soon retracted with the following tweet:

A part of me thinks that I never should have fallen for this.  It’s kind embarrassing.  I mean, what am I going to believe next? That Tory Burch is joining the cast of Jersey Shore?  Or that Taylor Swift is MTV’s next Teen Mom?  But, in the end, I don’t feel that bad about being fooled because I know I wasn’t the only pure of heart fashionista who fell for this epic April Fool’s joke.  Happy April Fool’s Day Socialites!

Some Serious Fashion at Glamour’s 21st Annual Women of the Year Awards

As NYC’s favorite Aspiring Socialite, I get invites to some of the most exclusive events. Since I still have a long way to go until I’m a household name outside of my own home, invites to Glamour‘s 21st Annual Women of the Year Awards earlier this week are still out of my reach which only gives me more to aspire to under the bright lights of Manhattan.  But, a girl can still dream and of course judge everyone on the red carpet.

Jessica Alba in this stunning black and white Tory Burch gets my vote for best-dressed. She looks so glamourous, yet relatable.  I can really see this becoming a classic.  Plus, I’m a huge fan of wearing head-to-toe black and white.  However, I also have to give notable mentions to Tory Burch herself, Emma Stone, and Lea Michele.  Jennifer Lopez killed in Versace as she further stunned everyone be taking a humble look at her incredible career.  Overall, this was one of the best-looking red carpets I’ve seen all year.  Aside from the breathtaking designer fashions worn by some of the most glamourous and accomplished women ever, one of Lea Michele’s quotes really stood out to me when she said, “Stand for something, or you’ll fall for everything.”  I may have no clue where my life is headed, but I stand firmly for self-improvement and obtaining the socialite lifestyle.

Left to right:

Emma Stone looking like a Greek Goddess in a green Lanvin. She should really wear this color more. It looks perfect with her red hair.

Esteemed fashion designer, Tory Burch, on the red carpet in her own adorable design.

The ultimate diva, Lea Michele, in a champagne colored Jenny Packman. Divas always need their sequins when off the set of Glee.

A Lovely Morning at Lucky Magazine and Lord & Taylor’s Shop. Eat. Blog. Breakfast

I’ve never been a morning person, but the allure of a Lord & Taylor breakfast shopping spree with Lucky Magazine is enough to get any socialite out of bed before noon. This morning, I began New York Fashion Week with a “Fashion’s Morning In” so to speak at the Lord & Taylor on 424 Fifth Ave. Before the store had even opened its doors to the public, the fashion elite and I were on the second floor drinking coffee and eating pastries discussing shopping strategies with Suze Yalof Schwartz, Lord & Taylor’s Fashion Editor at Large previously the Executive Fashion Editor at Large of Glamour Magazine.

Suze has some great suggestions as to what is in for fall including 3 key fall trends: Shine (sparkles and sequins), Colorblocking, and Bright Colored Jeans. All of which are available this season at Lord & Taylor. For those of you who have trouble getting dressed in the early hours of the morning, she suggests you stock up on dresses to pair with a great bag and a great pair of shoes. That way it is less to think about in the morning. Great advice considering that the earlier I have to wake up, the less fashionable I appear. Many thanks to Lucky Magazine and Lord & Taylor for the invite. I couldn’t think of a better way to begin my Fashion Week.

Early this morning over coffee, Suze Yalof Schwartz taught us how to do the perfect skinny pose, a technique taught to her by supermodel Cindy Crawford.  It’s quite simple really.  You turn your body all the way to the side then turn your front foot toward the camera and your body three quarters of the way to the front so all of your face, but only half of your body is in view of the camera.  Don’t Suze and I look skinny?

Disclaimer: Aspiring Socialite was gifted a $200 Lord & Taylor gift card at this event.

Socialite Hurricane Survival Kit

Yesterday, I went to the grocery store to stock up on food and water for the impending wrath of Hurricane Irene. There I picked up my share of crackers and bottled water.  However, as I walked home from the grocery store four blocks and an avenue away, I couldn’t tell which was heavier the mass amount of water I had purchased or the September Issues of Vogue, InStyle, and Glamour.  When and if the lights go out and I am stuck at home hiding from Irene I will be armed with endless hours of fashion fun.  As a socialite fashionista, I would choose to have Anna Wintour by my side over the National Guard any day.  Though the eastern seaboard may be in store for a natural disaster, I refuse be among the fashion disasters this fall.  Bring it on Irene!  But, play nice, I would like to still have my windows once this is all over.

Reese Witherspoon Looking Glamorous on the Cover of Glamour

Ever since her outstanding performances in the socialite classics, Legally Blonde and Cruel Intentions, Reese Witherspoon has held the coveted spot as my all-time favorite actress.  Her blonde hair and heartwarming smile make her not only, America’s Sweetheart, but a global icon.  Therefore, she is the perfect cover girl to ring in the New Year gracing the cover page of the January 2011 issue of Glamour.  Reese, looking red hot in a Burberry Prorsum dress that I totally want to snag for New Year’s Eve, told the magazine how her ambitions have changed since Legally Blonde, “My ambition has sort of broadened. I’m more interested in literature, art, public policy. And I’m really interested in doing more philanthropic endeavors.”  As an aspiring socialite, I feel that my ambitions have taken a similar turn since this blog went live in February 2010. Though party crashing and high fashion are still very much on the agenda, I also plan on using my social media power to promote social good with the addition of philanthropic endeavors I will be executing in 2011.  During my senior year of college when I prepared for change by making a change, I dyed my hair blonde inspired in part by the looks of Reese Witherspoon.  I have since dyed it back, but now, my favorite Hollywood star is inspiring me not to change my hair color, but to change the world.
