Summer Loving: Be Sure to Read “Have the Relationship You Want” By Rori Raye

In a city like New York where women outnumber men 8 to 1, it’s easy to get into a relationship rut. Sometimes, a penthouse apartment overlooking Central Park with a closet filled to the brim with Chanel can seem more attainable than a man. It seems that for women in NYC, a man just may be the only accessory we don’t have.  Luckily, according Rori Raye’s book Have the Relationship You Want, with the right attitude, knowledge, and desire, you can land exactly the relationship you want. I’ve never really been into self-help, but Have the Relationship You Want, really makes some excellent points proving that common sense just may not be so common. Author, Rori Raye, is a trained relationship coach who has been married for over 20 years. She considers her successful marriage her biggest credential.  However, Rori admits that she used to use all the wrong tactics to attract men.  Now she is sharing her secrets so that everyone can experience the same love and happiness she has.

Have the Relationship You Want encourages readers to seek confidence in themselves and to know exactly what they want, but never to expect to be in full control when it comes to love.  In other words, in order to reclaim love or claim it for the first time, you must first reclaim yourself.  Once changes happen on the inside, they will naturally happen on the outside.  Even small changes can make a huge difference.  What really resonated with me about this book was the revelation that it’s a myth that love and relationships need to be hard work.  One you’ve grown to know yourself, set boundaries, and found a partner you can work with, love should come easily.

Happy Mother’s Day Mom!

Happy Mother’s Day to all the moms out there!  Throughout my life, people have come and gone, but the only thing that has remained constant is my mother, Renee.  Originally from Caracas, Venezuela (Yes, I’ve been to Venezuela and the beaches are awesome), my mom came to the United States to finish school and ended up staying.  I’m so grateful to have her in my life and for everything she’s taught me about love, culture, and respect.  One of our favorite socialite activities to do with my sister, Caroline, is shopping, followed by a long lunch, followed by even more shopping.  We also very much enjoy exotic travels.

Here we are playing on the swing on a sunny spring day much like this one at the home where I grew up in Wilmington, DE.  So much time has gone by and so much has changed in our lives since then, but the unconditional love of a mother is timeless like the works of Coco Chanel.  I love you Mom!  Thank you for always supporting my socialite dreams!

June Weddings 101

I love weddings, especially June weddings. With summer fast approaching, my daydreams are filled with images of breathtaking outdoor weddings under the sun.  Though there’s a certain etiquette to being a bride, bridesmaid, mother of the bride, etc. no one really tells you what to do or wear when you are just a guest at a wedding.  Well, that’s all about to change.

Being a guest at someone’s wedding is just as much of an honor as being in the wedding, but with less responsibilities.  Be sure to look fabulous by dressing appropriately for the theme, venue, and time of day.  When with the bride and groom, don’t steal their spotlight.  But, being the center of attention at your table or on the dance floor is fair game.  Though catching the bouquet is always fun, you up your chances of being the next person to get married  by hobnobbing with as many cute guys in the reception as possible.

What to Wear to an Afternoon Summer Wedding:

Just because I have yet to be invited to a wedding this summer, doesn’t mean that I can’t start planning my outfit.

1.  Miss Selfridge Mint Lace Skater Dress:  So cute and whimsical!  This dress is also conservative enough to get the nod of approval from the grandparents who are bound to be at the wedding without being matronly.

2.  Rebecca Minkoff Mini MAC Shoulder Handbag:  This cute little Minkoff bag is big enough to hold everything you need without being overbearing.  Beige bags are great for summer weddings.

3.  Yves Saint Laurent Obsession Satin & Suede Pumps:  I’m utterly obsessed with these shoes!  Enough said.

4.  TOPSHOP Dip Dye Drop Earrings:  These green and gold pastels go so perfectly with this ensemble.

5.  Banana Republic The Mad Men Collection High Ball Cocktail Ring:  Chances are you’ll be sipping your share of champagne and cocktails at the wedding in honor of the happy couple which gives you the perfect chance to show off a cocktail ring.

Fun Wedding/Bridal Shower Gift Ideas:

Though I prefer to give and receive cash at these occasions, I couldn’t get over how cute these potential wedding/bridal shower gifts are.

1.  Jonathan Adler ‘Jet Set’ Porcelain Coasters:  Jonathan Adler has excellent home goods to give as wedding presents.  These coasters are perfect for your typical jet setting socialite couple.

2.  Vera Wang Wedgwood Dinnerware:  Vera Wang doesn’t just make excellent wedding dresses, her dinnerware makes a wonderful bridal gift.

3.  Margaritaville Frozen Drink Maker:  The party doesn’t stop just because you tied the knot.  This is a great gift for a couple who loves to entertain.

4.  Missoni Tropical Sugar Bowl:  Even if the bride and groom aren’t the cooking type, this Missoni sugar bowl is an awesome kitchen decoration.

5.  Gift Boutique Fortune Cookie Box:  To give the newly married couple good fortune.

6.  Diane Von Furstenberg Camargue Rolling Expandable Luggage:  They’ll love a new set of luggage to bring on the honeymoon.

Happy Valentine’s Day!

Happy Valentine’s Day to all of my wonderful fans and readers!  I must say that I truly love you and your support of the Aspiring Socialite movement. Thank you for joining me in showing the world that there is nothing wrong with loving the finer things in life, even if they are completely out of your price range.  Speaking of the finer things, even if you are not in a relationship, who doesn’t want the perfect engagement ring for Valentine’s Day?  Being both sparkly and symbolic, there is no doubt in my mind that an engagement ring is the ultimate accessory.

The best engagement rings are noticeable, not oversized.  One must be able to look at it and know it is an engagement ring within seconds.  It is the responsiblity of the ring to announce your engagement before you do.  Contrary to popular belief, it doesn’t need to be 20 carats to do so.  Emma Bunton, the pop star formally known as Baby Spice, received one of the most impressive engagement rings a few weeks ago when longtime boyfriend, Jade Jones, proposed to her a few weeks ago on her 35th Birthday.  In honor of the occasion Emma tweeted, “Yahooooo I’m Engaged! Love you Jade! I’m a very happy lady!”  Paired with this lovely picture of her and the ring, it was the tweet that shook the dating world.
