What’s Hot for Fall 2011

Today, after feeling a refreshing chill in the September air, I bailed my stylish boots out of boot jail in the back of my closet where they had served time this summer when it was too warm to wear them.  Now I can’t wait to layer them with leggings and skinny jeans as the leaves change color.

Here is a list of the hot items this season that I can’t wait to break out in the cold weather:

Aspiring Socialite Tee: In case you haven’t heard or didn’t see it on the sidebar, I have just come out with a line of Aspiring Socialite Tees that I can’t wait to pair with jeans and a matching cardigan this fall.  They are available in women’s, men’s, and kids’.  Yes, this is a shameless plug.

Knit Sweaters Crochet Style: When the temperature goes down, sweaters are always in style.  But, this year I’ve been seeing a lot of lacy style sweaters.  Cropped sweaters also seem to be coming back in.

Sweater Dresses: Are so much fun with a pair of cute boots.  They are great for work or play.

Sequins and Shine: It isn’t just the holiday dresses that will be sparkling this season, sparkles are everywhere.  Sequin blazers are going to be huge.

Lace Up Boots: Many women’s shoes are mirroring men’s shoe styles.  Boots inspired by men’s work boots are a fall staple.  I have a also been seeing a lot of western style boots again this fall season.

Missoni for Target Throw: I can’t think of anything better than curling up to your favorite show surrounded by a warm and stylish Missoni blanket.

Colored Jeans: By the end of this season, I guarantee that I will be the proud owner of a pair of purple jeans.

Plaid Shirts are Back: Break out your plaid button-ups again because this style is sticking around for another season.

I Will Be Wearing Lauren Conrad’s Paper Crown Clothing Line

Described as a collection for those who like to play dress up in the grown up world, Lauren Conrad’s new clothing line known as Paper Crown, is my newest obsession.  I’m pretty sure I’m the only Aspiring Socialite type person who didn’t like The Hills, but I love Lauren Conrad and her new fashion line.  LC is a classy party girl.  Therefore, Paper Crown is the perfect collection for fashionistas who aspire to live and party like the stylish beauty who never got the apology she deserved from Heidi or Spencer.  But, that doesn’t seem to be keeping the lovely Miss Conrad down as she builds her fashion empire.

Though Paper Crown is mostly designed around days and nights on the town, it also has a whimsical feel to it.  That adds a romantic feel to the classic staples every woman should have in her closet such as the little black dress.  The fabrics are also both flattering and forgiving.  So if you choose to have a Mac n’ Cheese Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, the stretchy fabrics will still fit to your body perfectly.  Aside from being a great reality star, LC is also known for being the ultimate girly girl and it shows throughout this collection.  It’s never too early to start planning out your holiday party wardrobe.  Paper Crown has some great pieces that are sure to impress your boss, your boyfriend’s boss, or whoever at that special holiday event.  This great new line is available at Nordstrom and at select boutiques across the globe.

No More Missoni for Target Until Sept. 13th

NOOOOOOO!!! Today I stopped by the Missoni for Target pop-up store on 42nd St. and 6th Ave. that opened yesterday morning at 9 a.m. only to find that the entire inventory had long been SOLD OUT. Apparently 300 people completely ransacked the place within an hour of its opening leaving us with no affordable Missoni items until they are available online beginning Sept. 13th. The store was originally scheduled to be open until Sept. 10th.

As I turned around sadly, a nice worker there who discribed yesterday’s experience as “the scariest thing they had ever seen” gave me a complimentary Missoni for Target bag to take with me as a consolation prize. I’m so upset. I’ve been looking forward to this pop-up store for weeks now. I will be placing my order on the Target website as soon as it goes live. This collection is too good to pass up. I predict that it will also sell out quickly in stores as well as online so move fast if you like stripes.

Fashion’s Night Out Insanity in Meatpacking

Like thousands of other great fashionistas, I spent my Fashion’s Night Out 2011 cursing the shops of the Meatpacking District in search of free drinks and couture. It’s like one big free party where the guests of honor are the clothes. I started out the evening with a mixed drink at Hugo Boss. There, I got the urge to take a picture of myself in the mirror to show off both my outfit and the store as a whole. I kept doing this at every single store throughout the night.

My next stop was Matthew Williamson (pictured left) where the colors were vibrant as always. Due to some rambunctious fashion lovers last year, the House of Matthew Williamson had a strict two drink maximum. With lines around the block, Alexander McQueen was harder to get into than Will and Kate’s Royal Wedding. So I headed over to Diane von Furstenberg which had crowds of its own and some really awesome dresses. After stopping by Catherine Malandrino and Scoop, I hopped around some more and finished the evening with a mojito at Carlos Mieli. FNO is always a good time.

On Fashion’s Night Out, celebrities make appearances everywhere. I was secretly hoping to see a Kardashian. The girls from the new cast of America’s Next Top Model All Stars took over the Express store in SoHo.

The crazy shoes of FNO! Everyone was taking pictures of this girl’s shoes.

The streets of Meatpacking were transformed into a couture-driven Disney World. Can’t wait until next year.

A Lovely Morning at Lucky Magazine and Lord & Taylor’s Shop. Eat. Blog. Breakfast

I’ve never been a morning person, but the allure of a Lord & Taylor breakfast shopping spree with Lucky Magazine is enough to get any socialite out of bed before noon. This morning, I began New York Fashion Week with a “Fashion’s Morning In” so to speak at the Lord & Taylor on 424 Fifth Ave. Before the store had even opened its doors to the public, the fashion elite and I were on the second floor drinking coffee and eating pastries discussing shopping strategies with Suze Yalof Schwartz, Lord & Taylor’s Fashion Editor at Large previously the Executive Fashion Editor at Large of Glamour Magazine.

Suze has some great suggestions as to what is in for fall including 3 key fall trends: Shine (sparkles and sequins), Colorblocking, and Bright Colored Jeans. All of which are available this season at Lord & Taylor. For those of you who have trouble getting dressed in the early hours of the morning, she suggests you stock up on dresses to pair with a great bag and a great pair of shoes. That way it is less to think about in the morning. Great advice considering that the earlier I have to wake up, the less fashionable I appear. Many thanks to Lucky Magazine and Lord & Taylor for the invite. I couldn’t think of a better way to begin my Fashion Week.

Early this morning over coffee, Suze Yalof Schwartz taught us how to do the perfect skinny pose, a technique taught to her by supermodel Cindy Crawford.  It’s quite simple really.  You turn your body all the way to the side then turn your front foot toward the camera and your body three quarters of the way to the front so all of your face, but only half of your body is in view of the camera.  Don’t Suze and I look skinny?

Disclaimer: Aspiring Socialite was gifted a $200 Lord & Taylor gift card at this event.
