Socks with Heels and Brightly Colored Shoes

Lately, I have been noticing some crazy pre-fall shoe trends including this Alice in Wonderland style of wearing heels or short boots with an eye-catching pair of high socks.  The previously taboo “heels and socks” look is prominent in ALDO‘s fall 2011 advertising campaign modeled by Lily Donaldson and photographed by Terry Richardson.  I never thought I would like this. But, with the pictures I have been seeing and the occasional person I have been spotting on Fifth Ave. sporting this look, I am kind of digging it. Admittedly, not everyone can pull it off. But, if you can, you are bound to be showered with compliments. Personally, I really don’t know why this look has been considered a fashion faux pas for so long. It’s actually cute and functions are a fashionable way to keep your feet warm in your heels once the weather begins to change.

If you aren’t daring enough to put on a pair of crazy socks under your heels, which I’m not sure if I am, another combo that I see being popular this season are bright colors on black.  I’m really liking the idea of an all black evening outfit with black tights complimented by a neon colored heel.  This look can also be achieved by shopping at ALDO. Whatever you are thinking for the fall, I highly recommend ALDO for your shoe/boot needs. I can honestly say they are the most comfortable shoes on the market.

Beige is all of the Rage!

Everywhere from the tabloids to the red carpet to the stores, I have been seeing beige in the form of clothes, shoes, and bags. Beige fashions were hot in spring and are tagging along for summer. Though beige may be a boring color for your apartment, the opposite is true when it comes to your clothing ensemble. In a neutral colored outfit, you are the star. While people will still remember your outfit, the thing that really stands out is you. This goes along with Vera Wang’s philosophy that, “I want people to see the dress, but remember the woman.”

Outrageous patterns are fun and flirty, however, as a socialite, it is important to remember to always be the star of your own outfit. If you haven’t already, get a pair of beige heels to keep with your classic pair of black pumps in case an invitation to a red carpet event should arise.

Teen queen, Selena Gomez, owned the red carpet at the 2011 MTV Movie Awards in a Giambattisa Valli with beige accents and heels.

Kate Middleton made her first trip to the White House in a tight-fitting beige dress designed by British retailer Reiss. Typical of the stylish, yet low maintenance Duchess of Cambridge, the dress retails for a modest $340. Just like everything worn by the world’s newest and favorite royal, this outfit is selling off the shelves in both the U.S. and the U.K.

Xiomara Lisette’s Sexy Shoe Line is Miami Chic

After this crazy winter full of snow and ice, New York desperately needs a touch of Miami. With the arrival of March, I could not be more excited to trade in my UGGs and leggings for a mini skirt and bright platform heels. However, as a fashionista with flat feet and a bad back, I have experienced the distain of high-end bouncers everywhere by showing up at trendy clubs in flats or flip flops. I always get in anyway, but I would really like to someday wear heels for a long period of time.

Thankfully, breakout shoe designer, Xiomara Lisette has finally found a solution to my never-ending fashion crisis. As the wife of a Miami Heat player, Xiomara Lisette, created her own line of shoes to give her height, comfort, and most of all hot Miami style. As a sizzling Latina, much of Xiomara’s inspiration comes from Latin culture and her world travels. Her line premiered in New York recently at the Empire Hotel during Fashion Week where women came in from the cold and took off their clunky winter boots to try on these brightly colored shoes. As the days get longer with the approach of summer I look forward to seeing Xiomara Lisette’s line of sexy shoes expand from South Beach to Sag Harbor.

Marie Antoinette: Can Excess Be Too Excessive?

Long before Paris and Nicole lived The Simple Life and Kourtney and Kim Take New York premiered, the lovely Marie Antoinette made her mark on France with her famous proclamation “Let them eat cake.”  Though I am no history buff, I truly believe that royalty were the first ever socialites.  Flowing champagne, over the top parties, and cute little dogs act as parallels between the European royals of yesterday and the NYC socialites of today.  Perhaps, SoHo House is the new Versailles?  It also could be that the high society tradition of vacationing in the South of France may be somewhat inspired by the life and death of Marie Antoinette herself.

If it weren’t for the whole losing her head thing, Marie Antoinette’s story dramatized many times over, my favorite being Kirsten Dunst’s version, would be one to aspire to. Therefore, my advice to Aspiring Socialites everywhere is to shop and party all you want, but when you feel you are losing your head, it is time to take a step back.  If you ignore the philanthropic side of being a socialite, you may be pulling a Marie Antoinette.  To become a socialite you must be able to see yourself the way others see you.  This applies to both your attire and your actions.

Since you should live everyday as if it were your birthday, I encourage everyone to eat cake.  Unless, of course you are on a diet.  This scene from Marie Antoinette (2006) is among one of my favorites.  The outfits are completely ridiculous, but I love the shoes.

After Party Flats are Flat Out Amazing

The first rule of New York City is “Never go barefoot.”  But, after a long night out on the town in a city that glorifies both tall buildings and 6-inch heels, you are going to want to do the unthinkable and walk the streets of Manhattan with shoes in hand.  Like most rules here in the Big Apple, the barefoot rule was meant to be broken.  While you might have begun the evening looking like a princess in $700 Louboutin heels, the higher the heel the more likely you are to end the night barefoot as a pauper.

The invention of After Party Flats may just have saved me and millions of other stylish socialites from an incurable foot disease.  The concept is both simple and stylish making them a total socialite staple. All you do is fold up an adorable pair of ballet flats that coordinate with the night’s outfit and slip them in your bag.  When you can no longer handle the agony of your killer heels, pull the switch.  Just remember to find a safe place to store those fabulous Louboutins.  Your newly found comfort is bound to result in a much longer evening in the city that never sleeps.  So get yourself a pair of after party flats because even socialites can’t afford to sell their sole.
