Backstage at Diego Binetti FW14

eyeshadow

Before Diego Binetti‘s Fall 2014 presentation, I was given the exclusive opportunity to go backstage and see what happens behind the scenes at New York Fashion Week. Two hours before the show was scheduled to begin, the models arrived for hair, makeup, and nails. Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics (love the name) did an amazing job giving the models dramatic smokey eyes with their 100% vegan and cruelty-free cosmetics. Since the collection was inspired by nature and getting back to the earth, the nail artists designed gorgeous ombre nails using Morgan Taylor lacquer made to appear as if the models had been digging in the dirt. Now that you’ve been behind the scenes, click here to check out the collection.

Guest Post: 5 Ways to Look Good and Feel Good About Yourself

Cosmetic Surgery 1

A logical and open minded approach to personal appearance is essential for all of us who want to have a confident and outgoing image. Generally speaking, if we look good we feel good. The two outcomes are inextricably linked and contain the core of happiness and satisfaction. Thankfully, with today’s greater awareness of health and wellness all of us can attain the rewards promised by a well informed healthy lifestyle. The following are five of the best ways to achieving this ideal situation.

1. Sensible Dieting

A sensible diet should never be looked on as a quick-fix solution. The aim should always be to address a food and calorie intake in as sensible a way as possible. This means obtaining some reasonable advice about nutrition and healthy foods, while making firm commitments to stick with the effort. The faddish diets that make unrealistic promises usually fail as they take the whole concept of a diet away from the individual. The important thing should be to learn what works for you and to keep on doing it.

2. Daily Exercise

Along with sensible dieting, an essential for looking and feeling good is a revitalizing routine of daily exercise. This can be perfectly flexible and designed to fit in with an individual’s schedule and activities. The idea of visiting the gym every day does not have to necessarily apply, as a good level of exercise can be applied in the home or on the neighbourhood streets and parks. Aiming for a good 15 minutes of exercise every day can provide a great way to benefit from the natural high of being proactive about your health and personal fitness.

3. Liposuction to Tackle the Stubborn Areas

Occasionally, there are pockets of body fat that are impossible to shift no matter how rigorous the exercise and diet regime are. For those struggling with these troublesome deposits of fat, the expert surgeons of Cosmetics Canada could well have the answer. Their expert deployment of liposuction techniques can remodel and reshape the tummy, leaving a patient a new profile and new confidence. In no way an alternative to a healthy lifestyle, liposuction procedures should be best seen as an option for the hardest to manage parts of the stomach.

4. Facelift for a Younger You

The most advanced facelift procedures fully take into account an individual’s face. Every patient has a unique set of facial features, all of which form the basis for this natural style of assistance. This can often be the best option for everyone looking to remove wrinkles, sagging skin, and facial fat. With the whole procedure and recovery taking far less time than in previous years, a facelift could well be the ideal choice.  A professional facelift carried out by medical professionals can usually take as much as 10-15 years off a patient’s face. This alone can easily provide the incentive to investigate further.

5. A New Look

Making use of a classic style of makeover can often be exactly what is required. Available on every budget, why not hit the high street for a little pampering session at a beauty salon. Alternatively, you could try indulging in a spot of retail therapy. A new outfit or a trendy new hair style can often pave the way to an instant boost to morale and self confidence.

Trends in Makeup: Golden Eyeshadow and How to Apply It

Make a luxe statement as you walk into your business meeting or while arriving at a dinner with a colleague. Rich, shimmering shades of gold is the ideal way to achieve a ‘goddess’ effect with a sun-kissed twist. This look has been rocked on the runways and by the biggest celebs. Nicole Richie followed this very of-the-moment trend recently at Fashion Week where she hosted the 10th Annual Style Awards. According to Cosmopolitan, she wore her gorgeous eye makeup with a straight, sleek bob with terracotta bronzer and nude lips. Anyone can wear gold eye shadow. The trick is selecting a warm shade of color that will complement your skin tone.

Choose a Shade

From super sunny to smoky and subtle, golden eyeshadow shades can take on a multitude of looks. It works well for a lively daytime or a sultry evening look and is a warm option for holidays and parties. Choose a shade that will blend well with your eyes and skin tone for the best results. Dark metallic shades, such as a golden bronze, can flatter women with ebony or olive skin tones. Fair skinned women should opt for paler shades of gold with yellow undertones.

Enhance the look by combining your gold shadow with other colors. Gold eyeshadow works well with your basic black smoky eyes for a dramatic nighttime look. Darker bronze hues should be applied in the creases, while lighter shades should become more translucent as they reach the brow bone for proper highlighting. Eyeliner should be neutral for a soft daytime look. Using various forms of eyeshadow such as powder, cream or gel can also create different looks. Refinery29 suggests using a cream liner instead of a pencil when lining your inner rims, as it will stay put longer and is more resistant to smudging and fading.

Get the Look

Begin with clean, moisturized skin which will help to adhere the makeup and make it last longer. Prime the eyelid from lash to brow with a light neutral eyeshadow or face powder. Apply a stick, cream or liquid foundation around the eyes in areas that have increased pigmentation. Blend the concealer well to even out your skin tone with your finger or blending brush. Use a dense applicator brush to apply a wash of gold eye shadow over the entire lid area, stopping at the crease.

Using a dark golden brown, copper or other complementing shade, apply color to the crease and outer edge of the lash line and blend outwards. Use a highlighter around the inner corner of the eye and under the brow bone. Complete the look by applying a subtle wash of eyeshadow with a pinkish tone over the entire eye to add an instant pop of color. For a bolder look, use black eyeliner to line your upper and lower lash line. Darken and lengthen your lashes with a coat or two of black mascara.

Use Complements

Use complementing colors on your cheeks and lips to play up your best feature – your eyes! Opt for a subtle pink cream or fuchsia powder blush on the apples of your cheeks. Lips should be kept neutral to make your eyes the main attraction. Clear gloss on the lips can be used to keep them moisturized during the day. The golden eye look doesn’t work quite as well for women who wear glasses. Really make your eyes pop by making the switch to Coastal.com contacts when rocking your golden lids. Contact lenses are also available in colored selections, allowing you to create a variety of looks using your eye color. Golden makeup enhances brown, hazel and green eyes best.

A Great Cause and Great View with Origins at The James Hotel

NYC Rooftop

Last week, I attended the It’s Smart To Do Good Origins Event hosted by Emmy Rossum benefiting charity: water. Origins has a long heritage of giving back to the earth and combining beauty and brains. So when I heard that Origins and their Smarty Plants CC Cream were teaming up with charity: water to correct the global water crisis in Ethiopia, I was immediately intrigued.

Standing on the rooftop of the JIMMY at The James Hotel penthouse, I got caught up in the breathtaking views of Manhattan at sunset. However, when I heard more about the water crisis, it opened my eyes even more as I became deeply aware of how privileged I have been to have what seems like unlimited access to clean water while so much of the world struggles for it. That’s a realization that I will not soon forget. To do your part to end the global water crisis, tweet using #donate and #SmartyPlants. Just $30 provides one person in Ethiopia with clean drinking water.

Beauty Secret: Logona Natural Shampoo Review

Logona Natural Shampoo

I’m always on the hunt for high quality organic beauty products. When it comes to beauty, nothing is more of a selling point than a certified cruelty-free seal. So when I came across Logona, a European beauty brand dedicated to manufacturing and packaging eco-friendly makeup and body products, I knew I had to get my hands on it. Recently, I gave their natural shampoos a try and couldn’t believe just how silky and soft they left my hair feeling. I love the smell of the Logona Volume Honey Beer and the moisturizing qualities of the Logona Repair Shampoo Ginkgo. Unlike many organic products that are expensive and unattainable, Logona is surprisingly affordable and available at many large drugstore chains. I totally recommend this line of organic shampoos for the an easy body and spirit refresh.
