Socialite Tinsley Mortimer Raises Money For the American Humane Association at Samantha Thavasa

I know it seems like I’m always telling you to go shopping, but that’s only because I am. There’s nothing better than shopping for a cause, especially if that cause is the American Humane Association’s Second Chance® Fund that gives abused and neglected animals a second chance at life and love. Thanks to the philanthropic efforts of New York socialite and handbag designer, Tinsley Mortimer, in honor of Adopt-a-Dog Month, 25% of sales at the lovely Madison Ave. handbag boutique, Samantha Thavasa Oct. 13-20th will benefit the American Humane Association’s Second Chance Fund that helps fund local shelters and rescue groups all over the country afford to treat abused and neglected animals so they can be adopted into the loving homes they deserve.

Tinsley, who serves as a National Ambassador for the American Humane Association, hosted a private event last night at the boutique to kick off the effort featuring some adorable pets up for adoption as the guests of honor. Though sadly I couldn’t make it to the event, as a vegetarian and passionate animal rights activist, it couldn’t be more important to me to bring awareness and help to this issue effecting those who can’t speak for themselves. Tinsley is truly a role model for me because throughout my life, I hope to help animals too.

Animal abuse is not pretty and neither is this video. What you are about to see will disturb you. Make a difference in the life of a helpless animal by shopping at Samantha Thavasa now through Oct. 20th.

Follow in the Footsteps of Paris Hilton Adopt a Pet

If you are anything like me, you are still looking for a New Year’s Resolution for 2011 that is worthy of socialite status.  As a vegetarian who adores animals more than luxury itself, I urge you to make 2011 the year you adopt a pet just as our favorite celebrity socialite, Paris Hilton, recently did.  After a run in with the law earlier this year, Paris Hilton decided to complete her 200 hour community service sentence at The Animal Foundation, the largest single-site open-admissions animal shelter in Nevada that takes in more than 50,000 homeless animals a year.  The shelter was thrilled to have the heiress as their newest volunteer.  She was even said to have tears in her eyes when the blonde socialite toured the site and heard of the shocking statistics abandoned and abused animals face on a daily basis.

Paris Hilton was so inspired to make a difference that she adopted a new pet of her own, a 3-year-old Chihuahua named Skeet who she renamed Sid Vicious.  So inspired by her love for animals everywhere and her new friend, Miss Hilton took to Twitter urging others to adopt. “This Christmas, if you’re thinking of getting a dog or cat, get one at your local animal shelter. Save a life. Don’t shop. Adopt.”  Remember that when you adopt you are actually saving two lives, the life of the pet you are adopting and the life of a new animal you are making room for in the shelter.  It is lonely at the top. So it is in your best interest to get a friend who loves you unconditionally.

This Halloween Save the Black Cats

I’m really more of a dog person, but in case you haven’t heard I will be going as a Glam Cat this Halloween which is basically a black cat with lots of jewelry and sequins.  I guess the black cat costume is the little black dress of Halloween.  While costumes such as Lady Gaga, Sarah Palin, or the Mad Men characters may lose their allure in the years to come the black cat will be with us always.  To set the record straight, however, my costume choice was not a result of a lack of creativity.

As a vegetarian and animal rights advocate, I was very sad to hear that blacks cats are only half as likely to be adopted due to stigma and superstitions. Therefore, I am going as a black cat in support of the Black Cat Rescue, a no-kill animal shelter out of Boston that saves the lives of homeless black cats by finding them foster and adoptive homes.  Like my furry friends, socialites are often under scrutiny.  So this is really the perfect Halloween costume for me.  Stay tuned for pictures of me as a Glam Cat partying are various NYC sites including the parade in Soho. Happy Halloweekend Socialites!
