The Fabulous Life of Rebecca Bonbon, a French Bulldog in NYC

It’s no surprise to me that the ultimate socialite is a pint-sized dog living in a luxurious NYC penthouse overlooking Central Park. Straight from the marvelous mind of, the original Hello Kitty creator, comes Rebecca Bonbon, an adorable French Bulldog from Paris who is adopted by an American girl from New York. According to the legend, the two met in Paris when the girl was on vacation and quickly became BFFs after attending fashion week and shopping together on the Champs Elysees. While in the City of Lights, the pair also indulged in sweet French pastries and bonbons.  The American girl had so much fun with the pooch in Paris that she invited the beloved Rebecca Bonbon to come live in New York with her to continue their opulent adventures.  Before arriving in New York, the two made a stop in Japan.  In New York, they continued living the socialite dream with private jets, chauffeurs, picnics with friends, frolicking in Central Park, and of course bonbons.  The lovable Rebecca Bonbon is best known for her American Express Black Card that just happens to be unlimited allowing her to buy anything and everything at Chanel.  Would it be possible for this girl to adopt me?

The fact is that it’s lonely at the top.  Therefore, socialites always need a companion that fits in your seat in first class and loves you unconditionally.  Like Rebecca Bonbon, however, these puppies often grow up to become socialites themselves which only makes them understand you more.  As part of their back-to-school initiative, a Rebecca Bonbon line of tees and accessories will soon be available at Sears and Kmart.  Teen star, Jennette McCurdy, has been chosen to be the face of the line.  I hope I’m not too old to buy this stuff because I totally plan on it.

Help Me Find “Harvard Hottie”

I don’t secretly work as a nanny to a family of mean rich people on Park Ave. or anything like Scarlett Johansson in The Nanny Diaries, but I think I just met my Harvard Hottie. Well, I sort of met him. Today, on my way home from work somewhere in between Port Authority and the Theater District, I passed a blue-eyed brown-haired guy wearing a white Harvard T-shirt. I looked at him and he looked back at me at the same moment. Then there on one of the most highly congested New York City street corners, we made eye contact for a second time.

By the second time, I knew he was just as interested in seeing me again as I was in seeing him.  As I turned the corner and crossed the street, we both looked over our shoulders once more to glance at one another.  I wish I would have said something to him.  “Hi” or “Hello I’m Vicky” would have been sufficient and could have very well resulted in dinner Friday night.  I know this totally sounds like one of those creepy Craig’s List rants, but I’m serious. Please help me find my Harvard Hottie!!  If you know a hot guy fitting this description who owns a white Harvard T-shirt with crimson lettering who passed a girl wearing a black ruffled Cynthia Rowley dress with a pink tank top under it, kindly let me know immediately.

A Typical Monday in the Life of An Aspiring Socialite

Starting off the week with a socialite flair: Mondays don’t always have to be bland. In the world of elite socialites, they barely even exist. I blog with the belief that one day, my life will consist of one big weekend. In a city of black, white, and grey I took the liberty of brightening up my Monday with a pair of hot pink capris with the intention of making NYC more like Miami Beach. Just like any New Yorker, I really do enjoy the combination of dressing in all black with one unique accessory to stand out, however, once the weather gets warmer, it’s time to brighten things up a bit.

Turning heads: I don’t know what stopped traffic more: Was it my hot pink pants in a rush hour traffic full of nothing, but black suits? Or was it me stopping to take pictures of myself in reflective surfaces all over the city on my way home? Either way, socialites were made to stand out and aspiring ones are no exception.

Summer shopping: As you can see, I also went shopping at H&M to expand my summer wardrobe for 2011. They have some awesome basics for summer, however, at times it was hard to figure out what was a beach coverup and what was a sundress.

Aspiring to the great wisdom of yoga: At the end of the day, I took to Yoga to the People to expand my energy within. As someone with a life as busy as mine, I need all of the endorphins I can get. Therefore, I turn to hot yoga for both energy and serenity.

Well, that was my day. What do you do on a typical Monday to make yourself more of a socialite?

Is Wearing Shorts with Tights OMG or WTF?

Leggings seem to have found a permanent home in New York City. But, what about the recent trend of wearing shorts over tights? Though I am usually very opinionated when it comes to fashion as to whether something is socialite or not, I am quite conflicted when it comes to the concept of wearing shorts with tights. Throughout spring and fall when the weather is often unpredictable and neither warm nor cold, the shorts/tights combo is an excellent way to incorporate summer and winter clothing in the same outfit. If you get caught in the rain, boots can really compliment this look.

Lately, I have been seeing numerous New Yorkers sporting this trend. While some fashion moguls who sport this style are some of the chicest people bound to turn heads as they strut down Fifth Ave.’s shopping meccas, others look sloppy and inappropriate in this controversial combination. For this reason, I have yet to take the town dressed in such an unlikely union. However, seeing that this is an excellent way to make the wardrobe transition between spring and summer, you may see me wearing denim over nylon very soon.

Why Be a Socialite?

Everybody knows that being a New York socialite is far superior to climbing the city’s unforgiving corporate ladder. There is simply no comparison when you look at a typical day in the life of a socialite next to one of your average young professional. Perhaps, it is time you started climbing the gilded social ladder instead of the rocky corporate one because the life of a socialite has no glass ceiling. Discovering your socialite alter ego is one thing, but becoming one is quite another.

A Typical Day in the Life of a Young Professional:
7:45 a.m: Sadly, it’s wake up time. Maybe you shouldn’t have had that extra martini last night because it is only making it that much harder to get out of bed.

8:40 a.m: Wait in line at the Starbucks around the corner from your office for a much needed coffee fix.
9:05 a.m: Run to get through building security in the lobby because that coffee line just made you 10 minutes late.
9:15 a.m: Race through the doors of your office and smile at your CEO. Both corporate and social ladder climbers need to get in good with the powerful.
10:00 a.m: Catch up on endless emails and client calls
11:35 a.m: Second coffee run of the day
12:45 p.m: Lunch meeting with the boss and co-workers to go over something you already went over.
2:00 p.m: Crunch numbers and put together a solid plan that is sure to get you promoted or at least get you a bonus.
3:05 p.m: Still writing up the plan. Time to make a chart.
4:00 p.m: Pick out the best template for your Power Point presentation
6:15 p.m: Time to leave the office for some much needed yoga
8:00 p.m: Eat and relax in your tiny 5th floor Manhattan walk-up and get ready to do it all over again tomorrow.

A Typical Day in the Life of a New York Socialite:

11:00 a.m: Wake up rested in your tastefully decorated penthouse
12:00 a.m: Hit the gym with your girlfriends and your personal trainer
1:30 p.m: Meet with your publicist and the show’s PR team to plan out your appearance on a major television program.
2:15 p.m: Pick up a new eye kit at the Bloomingdales makeup counter. You then decide to pick out a new Fendi bag while you are there.
3:30 p.m: It’s off to hair and makeup followed by a photo shoot with your fav photographer.
5:00 p.m: Stop by your stylist’s office to get fitted for a dress for the next charity event.
6:00 p.m: Downtime
9:00 p.m: Get ready for a hot high profile date consisting of dinner, clubbing, and a spur of the moment trip to the Hamptons bound to make it onto Perez Hilton.
