California Dreaming

This week, I visited Los Angeles for the very first time.  Staying in sunny Santa Monica which is surprisingly cold this time of year, I took walks along the Pacific coast in the mornings to watch the sunrise over the ocean.  Though New York still feels like home, I can’t get enough of the natural beauty and carefree life that is California.

Bewitching

Last Week, Hedi Slimane launched the house of Saint Laurent Paris back into fabulosity at Paris Fashion Week with his couture coven of witches.  While most people got caught up in the collection’s drama with Cathy Horyn, I became absolutely bewitched by the collection and spent hours trying to wrap my head around the fashion house’s mysterious name change.  Inspired by YSL SS13 and witch inspired fashion in general, I headed downtown to Enchantments, my favorite spiritual supply store, on 9th St. between 1st Ave. and Ave A.

I discovered Enchantments three years ago when I first moved the city.  In the mist of searching for a job, I picked up a candle said to bring career success.  I lit it for seven days as directed and by the next week, I had three interviews one of which was at Vogue.  I didn’t end up getting any of those positions, but I was happy to have brought forth a much-needed change in the universe.  When I spoke to the owner, Stacy, about taking pictures at the store for my fashion blog, she mentioned having made custom candles for some of the biggest names in the fashion industry making me feel even more spiritually connected to my favorite fashion designers and editors.  To rediscover your fashionable spiritual side, find Enchantments on Facebook and check out my photo shoot that just may make cauldrons and candles this season’s hottest accessories.

Striking a spellbinding pose

Enchantments isn’t just an awesome place to visit around Halloween, their products are great to everything from purifying a new apartment to enhancing your career to finding true love.

More cauldrons!

Obviously, this place is going to have amazing Halloween windows.  I’ll have to stop by again soon because they add to them on a daily basis.

How the Other Half Lives: Los Angeles

At the height of the heat wave raking havoc on patio parties and electric bills across the East Coast, it’s time those of us stuck on the scorching island of Manhattan considered other options. Whoever said that it’s not the heat that will kill you, but the humidity, was 1000% correct. I think it’s safe to say that global warming has many a New York-based Aspiring Socialite desperate for a Hamptons house with a pool and/or a bicoastal lifestyle. Though I’ve never been, I hear it’s always 72 degrees and sunny 3000 miles away in La La Land AKA Los Angeles. Weather and real estate is where L.A. socialites have us New Yorkers beat. Though this heat wave is coming to a close and temperatures are predicted to be comfortably in the 80’s, I’m far from letting go of my dream of someday partying high in the Hollywood Hills and shopping on Rodeo Drive.

I love my L.A. counterparts! Photos compliments of the lovely Alexandra DiNovi, Hollywood actress, L.A. socialite, and one of my best Twitter pals who I hope to party with in person soon. Check out her IMDb page.

On the South Street Seaport

Exploring new parts of Manhattan is always a satisfying experience, especially if it’s under the summer sun. In spite of the fact that New York it is city of unlimited options, it’s not uncommon to find yourself with no idea where to go. So you end up going to the same neighborhood spots again and again. Over the weekend, I ventured to the South Street Seaport, a historical fishing area adjacent to the Financial District with a breathtaking view of the Brooklyn Bridge. My $3 beer on the boardwalk was probably the best deal in New York.

My New York in Instagrams

So I finally got an iPhone (I know it’s shameful how long it took), but this phone upgrade has truly marked an upgrade in my life.  I’ve come to realize that every time I use Instagram, I’m holding a billion dollars. That app is absolutely amazing.  If you ask me, Facebook purchased it for a steal.  Today, I walked through my neighborhood on Manhattan’s west side shooting Instagrams of my surroundings.  Seeing them on Instagram was as magical as when I saw New York for the first time.

Above you will find the Empire State Building to the left and the view from outside my door on Ninth Ave. to the right.  Since this past weekend was absolutely beautiful, I took a stroll through the High Line, a city park built on old elevated train tracks.  Here are some of the highlights of my High Line trip:
