Happy Halloween from Harley Quinn!

This Halloween I’m going from socialite to supervillain! Inspired by Margot Robbie’s portrayal of the notorious Harley Quinn in the upcoming Suicide Squad movie and of course my favorite holiday, I took on Gotham City in my first ever cosplay shoot.

How to look like Harley Quinn

For those of you that aren’t familiar with Harley Quinn, she’s an accomplice and sometimes girlfriend to the Joker in the Batman comics. Before becoming a supervillain, she was Dr. Harleen Frances Quinzel, M.D, a psychiatrist at the Arkham Asylum. Her career as a Doctor was on the up and up until the Joker became one of her patients and she fell in love with him.

As her infatuation with the Joker grew, she decided to leave Harleen behind and transformed permanently into her criminal persona –Harley Quinn. While Harley has traditionally been portrayed as a sidekick of the Joker, she now stands alone is a psychotic criminal mastermind. I’m looking forward to seeing more of this Harley portrayal in the Suicide Squad movie.

Becoming Harley Quinn

With the popularity of Harley Quinn, getting this look was super simple. I ordered a Harley Quinn shirt off Etsy and paired it with black shorts and a pair of black tights which I destroyed. I then added combat boots and a baseball sock for the modern Harley Quinn look.

Harley Quinn Makeup

I opted out of the traditional clown makeup because I still wanted to look like me and I have super acne prone skin. I made the eyes as crazy as possible not paying too close attention to precision. Since Harley is a psychotic psychiatrist I made the makeup a little crazy. By crazy I mean controlled chaos. I added hints of red to one eye and hints of blue to the other along with bright red lipstick.

I played up the Harley Quinn details by painting the nails on one hand blue (essie – bell-bottom blues) and the ones on the other red (essie – with the band). Lastly, I used wash out dye in my hair. While I like the way my hair came out in the photos, I wasn’t a big fan of the spray in dye because it got all over everything.

Studio to Street Style in my Cory Vines

Lately, my obsession with ClassPass has resulted in a significant wardrobe change. I’ve become obsessed with looks that can go from studio to street which means lots of fab brightly colored yoga pants.

Cory Vines

I think I’m really starting to understand the appeal of basically living in workout gear. I often find myself wearing it to places like the movies or a casual dinner even if I don’t have a workout class after. Here I am going from barre to brunch in my Cory Vines Lane Print Leggings. Life is good!

DIY Metallic Pumpkins for Halloween

I haven’t done many DIY projects before. However, after being inspired by a bunch of amazing DIY blogs and my favorite holiday – Halloween, I decided to try my hand at making glam metallic pumpkins.

Pumpkins Halloween DIY

They were relatively simple to make and look great in a garden or lit up by candles on my kitchen countertop. After I picked out a few pumpkins I liked, I took a paintbrush and acrylic paint. Then I coated the pumpkins in silver and gold paint. It took a lot of coats before they look solid, but once they did I left them to dry and presto!

Savor the Taste of Taiwan

It’s always been a dream of mine to visit Taiwan. What first got me interested in visiting and learning more about the culture is the food and its emphasis on light, natural flavors.

Set B (with fish congee)

I absolutely love Taiwan’s rice noodles, unique teas and the melting pot of culinary styles that come together to create a delicious flavor of its own. So, when I found out that the Taiwan Tourism Board was hosting a five-day festival in Flushing, New York celebrating delectable Taiwanese dishes made by Taiwan’s top chefs, I knew I had to have a bite.

Savoring Taiwan’s Cuisine

The Savoring Taiwan’s Cuisine food festival is taking place October 16 – 20 at the Sheraton LaGuardia East Hotel. Mark your calendars and come hungry. Both gourmet dishes and a fusion of local snack options from a variety of influences will be available. Guests will enjoy a choice of three sets consisting of different Taiwanese street food; all with “Chou’s Shrimp Rolls” as the main dish. Chou’s Shrimp Rolls were created by Chef Chou in 1965 in the city of Tainan, the food capital of Taiwan. Chef Chou’s shrimp rolls are iconic throughout Taiwan and the world.

While Taiwanese cuisine often features high quality fish and meats, there are also many vegetarian options. There’s something for everyone. Though I hope to visit Taiwan someday, it’s good to know that I can get an authentic taste of Taiwan right here in New York. Find out more about experiencing the flavors of Taiwan for yourself!

Keeping Up With the Socialite Lifestyle: Staying Energized

We’re all familiar with the feeling of pure exhaustion. As an Aspiring Socialite, that feeling becomes inevitable when you’re constantly gallivanting from shows, meetings and parties. Luckily, this socialite has a few official yet humorous tips to stay energized in this fast paced world.

moringaMy number one go-to quick fix when I’m running around like a mad-woman is…yes… coffee. A Venti Latte from Starbucks, to be precise. Starbucks coffee is the strongest coffee I know and therefore the main brand of caffeine I resort to. However, the reason why I suggest you drink a latte is because of that small dose of protein intake. Protein is a “macronutrient”, which means that the body needs a relatively large amount of it. The body does not store protein and therefore can’t draw the nutrient from a reservoir when the body is lacking it. So it is necessary to intake protein whenever you can.

Having a balanced diet is extremely important as well. A daily balanced diet includes a combination of plenty of fruits and vegetables, starchy foods including bread, rice, potatoes and pasta and proteins including eggs, beans and dairy. You must also drink about eight glasses of water a day (that dirty-martini does not count). Don’t ever skip breakfast! This first meal is literally the fuel that gets you ready for the day. Those who eat breakfast are known to have more energy and do better at work overall. Those who skip it tend to be irritable and tired. So go ahead and have that egg sandwich with your Venti Latte.

Third, it is recommended that you take a daily multi-vitamin to keep you healthy and balanced. Vitamins, when taken overtime become stored within the body, thus your body will use the fuel from those nutrients that are already stored whenever necessary. Moreover, Magnesium is particularly important when it comes to your energy, so make sure that this is included in the multi-vitamin. Women are advised to take around 300 milligrams and 350 milligrams are recommended for men. A healthy dose of magnesium can also be found in a handful of almonds, hazelnuts, cashews, ran cereal and fish.

I am sure that you have heard of the old expression “an apple a day keeps the doctor away.” Well, a daily dose of moringa powder, the dried and powdered leaves of the Moringa tree, keeps the doctor at bay. The powder is filled with a number of nutrients, minerals and vitamins and benefits your health entirely. Because of the dense and purest form of nutrients within this plant, the body is able to keep its energy levels up in an effective manner. In other words, sprinkle this stuff on everything.

It’s also important to stay physically active to keep those energy levels up and any stress and anger down. Doing cardio about three times a week is enough for you to feel rejuvenated and mentally stable.

Lastly, get some sleep. Turn off that phone, get under the covers and watch an episode of your favorite show one night a week, followed by at least eight hours of sleep. No one likes to feel exhausted, let alone look exhausted. Remember, the only kind of bags you should ever have are designer bags. Not those under your eyes.
