Graduation Dress & Gift Guide

Graduation

It’s that time of year again! The time when high school and college grads look back on the past and celebrate a hopeful future. But, what do you wear when attending these fabulous functions? Whether you’re dawning a cap and gown or in the crowd sitting through an endless list of names, graduation apparel should be both dressy and conservative. Save your jeans, short skirts, and revealing tops for another summer occasion. A sundress or your favorite spring work dress should do the trick. For my cousin’s graduation this year, I’m pulling a Kate Middleton and wearing the same dress I wore two years ago to my sister’s graduation.

Now that you have the perfect (perhaps recycled) outfit, you’ve got to get the lucky grad a gift. You can never go wrong when you give cash or a check. At least, that’s what I always wanted for my graduations. However, if you insist on giving a physical gift or would like an accessory to go along with the cash, here are some traditional and a bit more amusing graduation gifts for a bit of retail inspiration.

Homecoming Weekend at Syracuse University

Over the weekend, I made a pilgrimage upstate to my Alma Mater, Syracuse University. I can’t believe it’s been almost four years since I graduated in May of 2009 and came to New York to begin life in the real world.  Though I feel kind of old now walking around the SU campus, a part of me will always miss the four carefree years I spent in college.

My college BFF, Tory, and I at the Homecoming game we won unexpectedly against the University of Louisville. So glad we could spend the weekend together since we now live so far away with me in New York and her in Cincinnati.

Visited the Pi Beta Phi sorority house and found my composite photo from senior year.

Nineteen Again

In my aspiring life here in the Big Apple, I find myself still getting carded even at business events.  It’s flattering and all, but the other day when someone in the bar asked if I was nineteen, I remembered how much fun it was to actually be nineteen.  I had happily left high school behind and begun the most exciting four years of my life as an Advertising major at Syracuse University.  My student loans were rarely thought of and I didn’t have any class scheduled before 10:30 a.m.  Not to mention I was skinnier.  It’s no wonder I’m smiling so much in these pictures.

At twenty-five living in New York City, I like to look back on this magical time in my life whenever I get carded or mistaken for someone much younger.  Being an Aspiring Socialite is quite the chore that has forced me to face both normal people and celebrity problems.  I may have double the problems, but it is the path I have chosen and one that’s gotten me places I’ve never imagined I’d go.  BTW: I took these pictures with my best friend since first grade in the early spring of 2006 of the beaches of Avalon, NJ.
