Fancy Fixation: Aruna Seth’s Diamond Jubilee Shoes

I’ve always wanted to go to England. I’ve been hoping Christian Grey would take me to his home in London in his private jet.  Sadly, he is a fictional character existing only in the rather interesting mind of West Londoner Twi-Mom, E.L. James.  But, an American girl can dream and of course tune into Queen Elizabeth II’s Diamond Jubilee on June 5, 2012.

After coming across these fabulous Swarovski crystal covered Aruna Seth platform pumps on Betty Confidential, I became utterly obsessed.  This UK shoe designer is said to be a favorite of Pippa Middleton and Princess Beatrice.  As homage to the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, she has made 0nly 10 pairs of these limited edition shoe enthusiast collectables.  They are currently on display at Harrod’s in London.  Each has a grand total of 3,000 Swarovski crystals.  It takes two weeks for one person to attach the patriotic crystals to the shoes by hand.  I must say I’m smitten.

Nightlife Basics

Every socialite want to be seen on the club scene. In order to avoid standing in line or paying for anything, I recommend always going with a promoter. New York’s hot clubs such as 1OAK, Griffin, and SL all offer the Aspiring Socialite an elegant decor that serves as a backdrop for pictures along with a great place to potentially rub elbows with the rich and famous. Though everyone seems to think that you need to be wearing the latest Dior and Chanel to go clubbing in New York, that’s simply not true.  Just combine basics with a few eye-catching accessories and a smokey eye and you’re ready to go.

Based on my experience, here are the top 3 things you need to be a mogul on the club scene:

1. The 3 basic dress designs you need to have on hand for your frequent trips to the club are: a little black dress (obviously,) a little red dress, and a sequin dress.

2. Mix and match them with sequin heels, red heels, and black heels.

3. No socialite wants to be lugging around or overshadowed by a huge bag while out on the town. Therefore, a good collection of tiny purses and clutches are essential. I prefer clutches with a handle. The ones without handles or straps are cute, but I’m always afraid I’m going to lose them so you’ll rarely see me with one.

Nightclub etiquette tips:

  • Have fun, but always be on high alert.  For every fabulous person at the club, there is an equally unfabulous unsavory character.  Always keep an eye on your belongings and stay far away from creepy guys.  An Aspiring Socialite always needs to watch out for both scary people and celebrities.
  • Do not wear jeans.  When I’m at a club and they start letting in people wearing jeans, I leave.
  • Bouncers may be a pain and often give you attitude from no reason, but it doesn’t work to your advantage to give them attitude back.  After all, they’re probably just sad that they have to work outside in the cold while everyone else has fun.  Be nice and introduce yourself in spite of the attitude.  Once you’re on a first named basis, you’ll never have a problem skipping the line.

The Joy of LAYLAJOY Footwear

I think I just discovered the most sophisticated new shoe line of the year. As those of you devout readers already know, I’m a huge fan of transitional and comfortable pieces.  When it comes to shoes, they are pretty much all I wear.  No matter how beautiful a shoe is, if you’re not comfortable in your own shoes (both literally and figuratively,) you will never be at your best.  When I came across LAYLAJOY, a new line of footwear making its very first shoe debut, I immediately realized that I was looking at a line that shares my vision.

Designed by experienced shoe designer, Layla-Joy Williams, who designed for major brands such as Nine West and Converse, the newly emerged LAYLAJOY line is both elegant and edgy.  Containing qualities of both the poised ballerina and the studded London rocker, you can make Natalie Portman proud by being both the black and the white swan in a comfy-chic pair of LAYLAJOY ballerina flats.  Best of luck to the lovely Ms. Williams on her new line!

Socks with Heels and Brightly Colored Shoes

Lately, I have been noticing some crazy pre-fall shoe trends including this Alice in Wonderland style of wearing heels or short boots with an eye-catching pair of high socks.  The previously taboo “heels and socks” look is prominent in ALDO‘s fall 2011 advertising campaign modeled by Lily Donaldson and photographed by Terry Richardson.  I never thought I would like this. But, with the pictures I have been seeing and the occasional person I have been spotting on Fifth Ave. sporting this look, I am kind of digging it. Admittedly, not everyone can pull it off. But, if you can, you are bound to be showered with compliments. Personally, I really don’t know why this look has been considered a fashion faux pas for so long. It’s actually cute and functions are a fashionable way to keep your feet warm in your heels once the weather begins to change.

If you aren’t daring enough to put on a pair of crazy socks under your heels, which I’m not sure if I am, another combo that I see being popular this season are bright colors on black.  I’m really liking the idea of an all black evening outfit with black tights complimented by a neon colored heel.  This look can also be achieved by shopping at ALDO. Whatever you are thinking for the fall, I highly recommend ALDO for your shoe/boot needs. I can honestly say they are the most comfortable shoes on the market.

Xiomara Lisette’s Sexy Shoe Line is Miami Chic

After this crazy winter full of snow and ice, New York desperately needs a touch of Miami. With the arrival of March, I could not be more excited to trade in my UGGs and leggings for a mini skirt and bright platform heels. However, as a fashionista with flat feet and a bad back, I have experienced the distain of high-end bouncers everywhere by showing up at trendy clubs in flats or flip flops. I always get in anyway, but I would really like to someday wear heels for a long period of time.

Thankfully, breakout shoe designer, Xiomara Lisette has finally found a solution to my never-ending fashion crisis. As the wife of a Miami Heat player, Xiomara Lisette, created her own line of shoes to give her height, comfort, and most of all hot Miami style. As a sizzling Latina, much of Xiomara’s inspiration comes from Latin culture and her world travels. Her line premiered in New York recently at the Empire Hotel during Fashion Week where women came in from the cold and took off their clunky winter boots to try on these brightly colored shoes. As the days get longer with the approach of summer I look forward to seeing Xiomara Lisette’s line of sexy shoes expand from South Beach to Sag Harbor.
