South African designer David Tlale really made a statement when his Spring 2015 collection hit the runway at Lincoln Center. The uniquely beautiful collection expressed a woman’s strength through elegant femininity. While half of the collection was made up of breathtaking African-inspired patterns, the second half showed the female spirit through flowing pink and orange designs.
After seeing Katya Leonovich’s SS14 collection last September, I loved getting the chance to see her SS15 collection today at Pier 59 Studios. Her latest spring line was a great mix of funky fresh styles. I particularly loved that her signature uses of purple (one of my favorite colors) translated seamlessly into this collection.
September 4, 2014 is not only my birthday and Beyonce’s birthday, it’s also the first day of New York Fashion Week. The stars have aligned and brought together three momentous occasions on one special day and I can’t wait to see what happens. Though my due date was originally in mid-August, I have a theory that I was born two weeks late because I didn’t want to come out until they started showing the spring collections.
As for sharing a birthday with Beyonce, it’s an honor that I take very seriously. Us Virgos are known to be efficient perfectionists. I only hope that I can someday reach the same level of perfection as Beyonce. For now, it’s time to take on another amazing New York Fashion Week at Lincoln Center.
This year my birthday (September 4th) is on the first day of New York Fashion Week. So it was only appropriate for me to make a wish list of accessories I need to take on the female equivalent of the Super Bowl.
Here they are:
1. Michael Kors Runway Gold Watch: In spite of the facts that almost every fashion show starts a half hour late and that I mostly use my phone to tell time, I could still use a little bling bling.
2. Benefit Cosmetics They’re Real Push-Up Liner: For both after parties and daytime events, I love using a dark liner to bring out my blue eyes, especially when meeting new people.
3. Printed Portable Phone Charger: When covering the latest collections to hit the runway, it’s essential to constantly be sharing them with the world on Twitter and Instagram. Therefore, I can’t afford to have my phone die even for a second.
5. Olloclip 3-in-1 iPhone Lens: Though I’ll obviously be bringing my professional camera to Fashion Week, it’s important to also get the best possible photos on my iPhone to share in social.
