When outrageous fashion designer, Betsey Johnson, recently declared bankruptcy, she did what any socialite would do and threw herself a bankruptcy party.  The brand that has been owned by Steve Madden since 2010, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in the mist of $4.1 Million in outstanding balances owed to vendors, manufacturers, service providers and the list goes on.  That makes my credit card balance look miniscule.

Most of the 63 Betsey Johnson stores are expected to close, but don’t lose heart because the brand will still be carried at Saks Fifth Avenue, Bloomingdales, and Nordstrom for those in need of an over the top neon fashion fix.  Betsey will continue to design and Steve Madden will continue to support the Betsey Johnson empire in this time of trouble.
