The Best Dressed at the 2012 84th Oscar Academy Awards

The glamour of the red carpet is the ultimate union of Hollywood and Socialite America. Awards shows always seem to make me believe that by this time next year, I too could be walking the red carpet in a couture gown and millions of dollars worth of jewels complete with a personal bodyguard to follow me around making sure no one steals them.

That being said, there are a few amazing celebrity looks that went down the red carpet last night that I’m particularly obsessed with. First and foremost, my #1 Best Dressed is Jessica Chastain in a classically beautiful Alexander McQueen. It seems McQueen can do no wrong when it comes to huge events and I think it’s so cute that she brought her Nana. I’m going to have to learn how to wear a cape correctly because Gwyneth Paltrow couldn’t have looked more regal in a white Tom Ford gown. I also adored Cameron Diaz in Gucci. Her dress gave an elegant burst or color on the red carpet both the hair and accessories went perfect with the dress making her look like every actress should at the Oscars.

Other huge 2012 Oscar obsessions of mine include the gowns of superstars Viola Davis, Angelina Jolie, and Penélope Cruz. Viola Davis looked wonderful in Vera Wang. The green looked incredible on her and I loved that she kept her hair natural. Her personality and natural beauty truly shined through. Angelina Jolie upped the sexy factor on the red carpet in a black Versace. The red lip was the perfect touch to this look. Penelope Cruz dazzled like a red carpet Cinderella in Armani Prive. Truly red carpet royalty.

Versace and H&M Go Bold!

The House of Versace has merged with Swedish retailer H&M for another very exciting high/low collaboration that combines the bold visions of Versace with the accessibility of H&M. Did you know H&M stood for Hennes & Mauritz? Now everyone (even the bottom 99%) can strut their stuff in the crazy sexy looks of Versace in this Lady Gaga inspired collection. Versace for H&M is set to hit stores just in time for the holidays on November 19th. I’ve always had something Versace on my Christmas list, but this year I might actually get something from the most outlandish fashion house on the block.

As every fashionista knows, the House of Versace or “My House, My Rules,” as Donatella Versace likes to say, isn’t a place, but a state of mind. If you could actually live there no one would leave. This incredibly joyful collection is probably the most inspiring of the year. It’s boldness and out of this world bright colors make it almost feel as it’s from a different time. The time we’re living in is dark and turbulent so we must approach it boldly. That’s exactly what this collection does. According to Donatella, fashion had it wrong the last time the economy failed when they produced safe neutral quality clothes that they thought people would invest in. “That couldn’t be more wrong. The companies that survived the most were the ones that were recognizable, that stuck to their DNA, and our DNA is glamour,” said Versace. The blonde fashion prophet couldn’t be more right. The worse things get, the more people desire glamour.

Some Serious Fashion at Glamour’s 21st Annual Women of the Year Awards

As NYC’s favorite Aspiring Socialite, I get invites to some of the most exclusive events. Since I still have a long way to go until I’m a household name outside of my own home, invites to Glamour‘s 21st Annual Women of the Year Awards earlier this week are still out of my reach which only gives me more to aspire to under the bright lights of Manhattan.  But, a girl can still dream and of course judge everyone on the red carpet.

Jessica Alba in this stunning black and white Tory Burch gets my vote for best-dressed. She looks so glamourous, yet relatable.  I can really see this becoming a classic.  Plus, I’m a huge fan of wearing head-to-toe black and white.  However, I also have to give notable mentions to Tory Burch herself, Emma Stone, and Lea Michele.  Jennifer Lopez killed in Versace as she further stunned everyone be taking a humble look at her incredible career.  Overall, this was one of the best-looking red carpets I’ve seen all year.  Aside from the breathtaking designer fashions worn by some of the most glamourous and accomplished women ever, one of Lea Michele’s quotes really stood out to me when she said, “Stand for something, or you’ll fall for everything.”  I may have no clue where my life is headed, but I stand firmly for self-improvement and obtaining the socialite lifestyle.

Emma Stone looking like a Greek Goddess in a green Lanvin. She should really wear this color more. It looks perfect with her red hair.

Esteemed fashion designer, Tory Burch, on the red carpet in her own adorable design.

The ultimate diva, Lea Michele, in a champagne colored Jenny Packman. Divas always need their sequins when off the set of Glee.

Kinder Aggugini for Macy’s Preview

Rising London-based fashion designer, Kinder Aggugini who previously designed for houses such as Versace, John Galliano, and Vivienne Westwood, will be designing a line exclusively for the Macy’s Impulse Department set to hit stores in February 2011.  Thanks to my blogger status, I was invited to preview this exciting collaboration at the Gramercy Park Hotel, which in and of itself is a gothic work of art.  Kinder’s unique style is seen in his use of expert tailoring combined with a punk rock edge.  His newest collection has a touch of Chanel with edgy rocker undertones.

Going along with the rocker theme, socialite, Alexandra Richards, daughter of famed Rolling Stones guitarist, Keith Richards, DJ-ed for the preview event in which Kinder himself flew in from London to make a personal appearance. In order to cater to the aspiring, most of the line will be in the price range of $40-$140 with a few items going for up to $300. Along with the rock sensibility, Kinder’s designs have an ultra feminine quality with brightly colored aspects and Kimono inspired styles.  We can’t all be the children of rock stars like Alexandra Richards, but every Aspiring Socialite could use a little edge.
