How to Find the Perfect Fragrance Type

Chanel

The power of perfume has been praised throughout history as having the supernatural ability to attract men. Therefore, every girl needs her signature scent. But, how much do you really know about your favorite fragrance? It turns out that fragrances are so much more than just fancy French words and pretty packaging. Each fragrance variety corresponds to a different level of concentration resulting in different size bottles and price points.

Wondering what the difference really is between a Parfum and a Toilette? Here’s the deal:

  • Parfums are the most concentrated. They are often in the smallest bottles and are known to be the most expensive of the fragrance varieties.
  • Eau de Parfums are less concentrated and a bit less expensive than their Parfum counterparts.
  •  Eau de Toilettes are (you guessed it) the least concentrated of the three fragrance types and usually the most affordable.

Once you’ve discovered your favorite fragrance, choosing between the Parfums, Eau de Parfums, and Eau de Toilettes is dependent on two major factors: how strong you’d like the scent to be and your fragrance budget. Since I prefer a more subtle scent, I usually go for the Eau de Toilettes. But, if you like a stronger and purer fragrance, you should hands down go for a Parfum. When buying a fragrance for a friend, I would suggest meeting in the middle with an Eau de Parfum. Whatever your preference, your perfume should make you feel as beautiful as the mystical bottle it came in.

Wonderstruck by Taylor Swift Fragrance Giveaway!

Wonderstruck by Taylor Swift

As a huge fan of Taylor Swift and her always fabulous red carpet looks, Wonderstruck by Taylor Swift has become my latest fragrance obsession. What I love most about this fragrance (aside from its beautiful packaging) is that it’s perfect for everyday wear. According to Beauty.com, Wonderstruck’s top notes are raspberry, dewberry, green tea, freesia and apple blossom. The middle notes are sweet vanilla along with sun-drenched honeysuckle and white hibiscus while its base notes are golden amber, musk, sandalwood and peach. Though the scent is classified as fruity, all of its elements are incredibly subtile, never overly sweet.

In celebration of my favorite fragrance, I’m giving away a bottle of 1.7 fl oz Wonderstruck by Taylor Swift Eau de Parfum to four lucky readers. So if you want to smell like a girl who just broke up with her boyfriend and wrote a kick ass song about it, follow me on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. Then leave a comment on this post with your email and favorite Taylor Swift song to complete your chances of winning. I don’t know about you, but I’m feeling 22!

*This giveaway is open to residents of the continental US only. It will run from May 31, 2014 – June 30, 2014. Winners will be contacted via email around July 1, 2014.

Socialite Stuff: A Passport to Paris

I love jet setting.  I’ve never actually done it, but I know it would be love at first flight. As I spend most of my free time wandering the streets of Manhattan on my long, yet incredibly rewarding journey to socialite fame, I find myself in need of a fragrance to match my Empire State Building-sized aspirations. Inspired by the socialite hot spots of Paris, South Beach, and Tokyo, these fragrances have some of the cutest packaging I have ever seen.  The trio retails individually at $45 for a 3.4 oz. Eau de Toilette and $25 a 1.0-oz bottle.  Thanks to Paris Hilton’s new fragrance, Passport, not only can you look like a socialite, you can smell like one too.

I am 15-years-old in my passport picture and it brings back a lot of memories. Even if I’m not going on a trip, I like to take it out once in a while just to prove to myself that I could get up and leave at a moment’s notice if I wanted to.  What can I say?  I like to travel.  Since I am half Venezuelan, maybe I should call my first fragrance Caracas after the capital city.  After Barbara Walters was mean to her on The View and low ratings on her new reality show, The World According to Paris, Paris Hilton hasn’t had that great week.  So I hope this post brightens up her day a bit.

Lord & Taylor has both Beauty & Brains

I just had an amazing evening at Lord & Taylor in which I along with NYC’s most stylish bloggers, got an inside look into their expanding cosmetics department. Armed with hot pink hard hats, we were given a tour of the first floor construction soon to be home to a revolutionary cosmetics department featuring lighting that is as close to the natural rays of the sun as possible ensuring that everyone leaves with the correct shades of makeup. It will also be home to a state of the art Chanel counter, the first of its kind in North America.  To my delight, they have chosen to restore much of the store to its original Fifth Ave. glory using the same materials and uncovering the charming architecture of nearly a century ago.

After the tour, we sampled numerous beauty products accompanied by more champagne. I am head over heels for T3 hairdryers and flat irons. Having won an Opal Sonic Infusion System, I can now take the spa home with me as I fight the appearance of eye wrinkles. I am very impressed with Lord & Taylor’s savvy style when it comes to the business of beauty. I look forward to the grand opening of their unparalleled cosmetics department.
