R.I.P. David Bowie

This week the world was shocked by the surprising death of David Bowie. When a celebrity who always seemed larger than life dies, it’s easy to start contemplating your own mortality. While none of us are immune to death, David Bowie’s passing has reminded me just how important it is to leave a legacy.

There is no doubt that David Bowie left behind a powerful, colorful and meaningful legacy. As a musician, producer, painter and actor, he showed us all that we were meant to stand out. Every day so many of us feel the pressure to fit in or do exactly what we’re expected to do when all we really want to do is color outside the lines. Thanks to Bowie, it’s okay to keep coloring.

I never knew it before, but it turns out that David Bowie lived just two blocks away from my office in Soho. All week fans have been lining up outside his apartment to leave flowers and pay their respects. It’s amazing to see just how many people Bowie influenced without ever having met them. I guess that’s the real power of art.

Kipling Make Happy Launch with MisterWives

Kipling Make Happy

After declaring 2015 the year of happiness, Kipling celebrated with a party in New York City featuring pink champagne, flowers and a performance by MisterWives – the happiest band ever. Personally, anything that involves pink champagne makes me happy. So pink champagne garnished with pink rose petals made me even happier. Thank you Kipling for an amazing time!

DJ MAKJ Takes Webster Hall

Webster Hall Music

The EDM scene is so hot right now. So when I got a VIP invite to see DJ MAKJ headline at Webster Hall, I was so in. Before the show, I enjoyed burritos and bottles in the press area. Not only did I get to meet some awesome people from the press, I also got to chat with MAKJ himself right before his performance. He was super funny and had me laughing pretty much the whole time.

During the show, I Ioved how he added the old school beats of Destiny’s Child and Dr. Dre into his mixes. When an ariel artist started swinging from the ceiling, I was amazed by her crazy routine and ability to fearlessly fly over the dance floor. It’s time I started mixing things up more!

College Fashion Week 2014

college fashion week new york

With the pressures of the real world constantly building up, I often like to pretend that I’m back in college. Over the weekend, I relived my collegiate years when I sat front row at New York’s College Fashion Week hosted by Her Campus. Having covered New York Fashion Week for many seasons, I wasn’t sure what to expect. However, after an amazing evening of fashion, talent and fun, I wish that I was back in college more than ever and can’t wait to experience College Fashion Week all over again next year.

The evening started off with cocktails, hairdos by TRESemmé, custom foundation by bareMinerals and eyebrows by European Wax Center. When the show began, college students who could have been mistaken for professional models strutted down the runway in the latest fall fashions from boohoo.com.

While the first collection consisted of imperial styles filled with sleek military glam, the second was entitled “Brooklyn Princess” and featured pink, powdery sporty separates. The third collection, Woodlanders, was my favorite. I loved the forest prints and earthy hues for fall. In between each collection, talented college students performed incredible music and dance routines including Columbia Sharp, Columbia University’s All Male A Capella group. I guess that’s something New York Fashion Week doesn’t have – cute Ivy League men singing John Legend ballads.

Making Unforgettable Skype Moments at Queens of the Stone Age

Queens of the Stone Age2

Over the weekend, Skype Moments hooked me up with a rocking set of tickets to the Queens of the Stone Age concert at Barclays Center. After seeing the show, Queens of the Stone Age has officially become one of my favorite groups of all time. Their acoustics alone were incredible. Trust me when I say that no one out there today can work a guitar like these guys can. The energy on the stage and throughout the arena, was also top notch. Many thanks to Skype for this once in a lifetime concert experience!
