Top Drugstore Beauty Finds

Best drugstore beauty products CVS Beauty Maybelline Makeup Mascara

Lately, I’ve been trying to be more responsible with my money. In the process of attempting to be fiscally fit, I’ve rediscovered the magic of the drugstore beauty aisle. While many high end beauty products are worth every penny of their exorbitant prices, even the biggest beauty snobs shouldn’t overlook the quality products hidden on drugstore shelves. Much of these affordable beauty finds work just as well, if not better than their expensive counterparts proving to me time and time again that top shelf quality beauty isn’t just for the rich and famous. Here are some of my favorites:

1. TRESemme Keratin Smooth 7 Day Smooth System

This 7-day heat activated trio absolutely lives up to its promise of salon style hair at home. The system consisting of the TRESemme Keratin Smooth 7 Day Smooth System ShampooTRESemme Keratin Smooth 7 Day Smooth System Conditioner and TRESemme Keratin Smooth 7 Day Smooth System Heat Activated Treatment contains thermal technology easily activated by the heat of your flat iron. It never fails to make my hair smooth, manageable and free of frizz making it a must have for the humid summer months.

2. Sally Hansen Insta-Dri Anti-Chip Top Coat

Sally Hansen’s Insta-Dri Top Coat is by far the best top coat and quick dry technology that I’ve ever used. I never do my own nails without it. Not only does this top coat always go on smoothly, it also makes your nails dry super fast and protects the polish from chipping.

3. Almay Liquid Line Eyeliner

I’ve been using Almay Liquid Line Eyeliner for almost a decade and absolutely love it. If you’re a liquid liner fan, you’ve got to try it. It’s easy to apply, dries fast and gives my upper lid the perfect line every time.

4. Neutrogena Oil-Free Eye Makeup Remover

Taking off your makeup correctly is just as important as putting it on correctly. I love Neutrogena Oil-Free Eye Makeup Remover because it removes all my makeup the first time. Even the darkest smokey eye is no match for this makeup remover.

5. Maybelline Great Lash Waterproof Mascara

I never gave Maybelline Great Lash Waterproof Mascara much thought until I tried it. For years I passed right by it in the drugstore writing it off as a below average mascara. When I finally used it, I found that it’s not only one of the more affordable mascaras on the market, it’s also one of the best. The formula never clumps and the brush’s tiny bristles help reach every lash for long-lasting volume.

6. Veet Ready to Use Hair Removal Wax Strips

Though I get waxed once a month at the salon, I often need to touch up in between waxes, especially during the summer months. For a quick touch up, I just heat up Veet Ready to Use Hair Removal Wax Strips with a hair dryer and wax away.

Eyes Redefined with Chanel Les 4 Ombres Eyeshadow Quads and InStyle Magazine

Chanel Les 4 Ombres

Just in time for the September runway shows across New York, London, Paris and Milan, Chanel released a new collection of Les 4 Ombres eyeshadow quads inspired by their iconic tweeds. In order to celebrate these amazing shades in way only fitting of Chanel, I set off to the makeup counter at the 59th St. Bloomingdale’s to style my eyes with InStyle Beauty Director, Kahlana Barfield and Chanel National Makeup Artists (NMAs) John Fussell and Sterling Williams.

Using the Les 4 Ombres Quadra in Tissé Vénitien, Chanel Ebene Eyeliner and Le Volume de Chanel Noir Mascara,  the incredibly talented Chanel makeup artist Reanna Godfrey (ask for her at Bloomingdale’s), transformed my eyes into the ultimate smokey eye look. The green hues in the Tissé Vénitien quad, put a nautical spin on the traditional smokey eye. I even mentioned feeling like a mermaid at one point. When the look was complete, Chanel National Makeup Artist John Fussell pointed out that the colors in the palette matched the vibrants blues and greens in my eyes perfectly. So in a magical way, it was almost like they never closed even when I blinked.

As a blue eyed girl, I’m always looking for new ways to bring out my unique eye color and nothing beats Chanel’s beautifuly long-lasting shades. While the must-have Le Volume de Chanel Mascara made my lashes thicker than ever, Chanel Les 4 Ombres quads give you endless options to blend the hues together for an array of stunning looks.

Eyebrow Confessions

Anastasia Beverly Hills

I’ve always had very thin sparse eyebrows. So much so that people would constantly accuse me of over plucking them when I hadn’t plucked them at all. For years, I was embarrassed about my small eyebrows. But, after seeing so many bad paint jobs that looked gross and unnatural, I decided to pass on eyebrow pencils. Aside from the occasional brow shaping, I rarely did anything to my brows.

One day, on a routine trip to Sephora, I got into talking to one of the sales people and she immediately recommended pencils from Anastasia Beverly Hills. After the first application, I was in love. Not only was it easy to apply, it looked so natural. All you have to do is follow the arch of the brow, fill in as needed and blend with the brush on the other end. The amazing design of the brush does the rest. I use the ‘Brow Wiz’ Mechanical Brow Pencil, but all of the products from Anastasia Beverly Hills are amazing. They’re a little pricier than most pencils, but 110% worth it. I want to try them all.

If you’re looking to start filling in your eyebrows, first go to a makeup store or counter that you trust and have them match you up with the right color.

Stop Hiding! Break Up With Your Makeup with Mirvaso!

Mirvaso Breakup with your makeup

Having previously suffered from acne, I know from experience how much skin issues can affect your self-esteem and make you want to hide behind layers of makeup or even avoid socializing completely. Rosacea, a common skin inflammatory condition that affects an estimated 16 Million Americans the majority of them women, can also cause a number of physical and emotional insecurities. The most common symptom of rosacea is persistent facial redness. This is caused by dilated facial blood vessels increasing blood flow to the skin. 24% of rosacea sufferers say that redness is the first symptom they notice.

Rosacea sufferers are more likely to be self-conscious and wear makeup more frequently. But, makeup only masks redness. It does not cure it. If you suffer from persistent facial redness and are covering it up instead of treating it, you not alone. Over 4 in 5 (82%) of rosacea sufferers have used cosmetics to cover up redness. 65% of rosacea sufferers wear makeup to work compared to only 35% of Americans who don’t have rosacea. Just over half of Americans (53%) wear makeup, compared to over 77% of rosacea sufferers.

However, simply covering up rosacea symptoms can be costly and ineffective. While 51% say they skip the dermatologist because they are worried about the cost of treatment, there is a better solution. On average, rosacea sufferers spend $36 on a single non-prescription product that promises to hide or cover-up facial redness. Mirvaso® (brimonidine) Topical Gel, 0.33%* made by Galderma Laboratories, L.P. is the first and only gel specifically developed and proven to reduce the persistent facial redness of rosacea. Depending on your insurance, prescription copays may be as low as $25 which is actually less than the cost of many cosmetics. Unlike cosmetics that only cover up redness temporarily, Mirvaso has proven results that were reviewed by the FDA for safety and efficacy. This easy to use gel last up to 12 hours and results can be seen quickly.

What’s even better than setting your skin free from heavy concealers and cover-ups? Winning a star-studded walk down the red carpet at the 2014 Emmy Awards. Enter Mirvaso’s Break Up With Your Makeup Sweepstakes today for a chance to make your makeup free Emmy debut.
