5 Things I Learned from the Royal Visit

Living in NYC, I’m used to seeing celebrities about town. I walk by them all the time and like a true New Yorker, I don’t even bat an eye. However, if I’d seen Kate Middleton during her epic Royal Visit to New York, I would have immediately been transformed into a 13-year-old fangirl.  Luckily, I just admired her outfits from a far and learned five important life lessons from her visit to the Big Apple.

1. It’s okay to roll your eyes at ignorant people

I was personally embarrassed as a New Yorker when a woman barked “keep wrapping” at Kate while she was wrapping gifts at a children’s charity event in Harlem. Whoever said that learned the hard way that when Kate Middleton rolls her eyes, it goes viral.

2. If you want to see Beyonce, go to a Nets game

Even if you’ve been living under a rock, chances are you still heard all about the royals meeting Jay-Z and Beyonce at Barclays Center. To tell you the truth, I wasn’t sure the universe could handle these two amazingly perfect women in the same room. I feared a global apocalypse that would change the world as we know it. Instead, it only proved to me even more that New York is the best city in the world.

3. Wear classy coats

Kate was seen all around New York wearing the classiest coats. Not only were they perfect for the inclement weather, they also made the outfit. I love seeing coats that could be outfits in themselves and it seems like the Duchess of Cambridge is truly a coat connoisseur.

4. Don’t touch royalty

LeBron James caused quite a stir in the British press when he put his arm around Kate Middleton at the Nets game. However, a spokesperson for Buckingham Palace came out saying that LeBron was not in violation of royal protocol. In fact, there is no such thing as royal protocol and the royals want people to feel as comfortable as possible while meeting them. But, just to be safe, don’t give Kate a hug when you first meet her. Just shake her hand.

5. Blowouts are best

Kate’s hair stayed perfect for the entire visit thanks to her effortless blowouts. These styles were perfect for the rainy and windy weather we had all week. Should one meet with an unfriendly gust of wind, your blowout will still look effortlessly beautiful.

I hope Kate comes back for New York Fashion Week!

Blue Ivy Carter & Other Socialite Baby Names

Unless you’ve been living on Mars or are currently incarcerated in solitary confinement, you know that Beyonce and Jay-Z welcomed a baby girl into the world over the weekend named Blue Ivy Carter. I’m so happy for them and I can’t wait to finally see the pictures they’ve been hiding from us. Blue Ivy certainly is a unique name. Celebrity children are some of the most unique people ever. So it’s no wonder they get crazy names like Apple, Harlow, Phinneaus, and Honor Marie. Though I’m not looking to have kids anytime soon, the birth of Blue Ivy Carter has got me thinking about what I will someday name my future socialite children.

Now, I know you’re not supposed to reveal your baby names after Charlotte from Sex and the City got the name Shayla stolen from under her, but seeing that I love and trust all of you so much, I’m going to share my dream baby names with you.  I was named after Queen Victoria (my mom was a huge fan of the Victoria Era;) so I really like the idea of doing something off of that so I’m going to name my first daughter London. It goes along with the whole British theme. If I have another daughter, I would like to name her Karma. This will make my family dynamic a perfect mix of east and west.

As for the boys, I like the names Conor and Holden. Conor was supposedly going to be my name had I been a boy. My dad was inspired by the Trinity protagonist, Conor Larkin. I also love the name Holden after Holden Caulfield from J.D. Salinger’s The Catcher in the Rye because I also hate it when people are phony and I’m artsy enough to name a child after that character.  Seeing that I only want to have two children, I won’t be able to use all these names, but it’s fun to think about.  I know it’s only a matter of time before I have a little Suri Cruise of my own, but like I said before, it’s going to be years before that happens.  Just to clarify and avoid rumors, I am by no means pregnant.
