Front Row at the Express 2011 Holiday Collection Preview in Times Square

Socialites are no strangers to finding themselves front row at major fashion shows. Thanks to the generous invite of Lucky Magazine and Express, I found myself front row at Express’ 2011 Holiday Collection Preview in Times Square just a few feet away from Catherine Malandrino. Prior to showing their holiday collection, Express broke a record earlier that day for the biggest fashion show ever setting a world record for the most people to walk down a runway.

Before the show, seven other bloggers including My Visa Hates Me, Pretty Connected, Court and Hudson, MissWhoever You Are, Sweet Caroline in the City, Diary of a Fashion Addict, The Budget Babe, and I were invited to the penthouse of the Muse Hotel for some pre-runway drinks and makeup touch ups with Pre-Dame. I absolutely loved the makeup they chose for me complimented by my first set of false eyelashes, which were perfect for the occasion. After getting glam at The Muse, we were off to the heart of Times Square for some backstage access into the show. I have to say that this was the hottest runway show I have ever been to in far more ways than one. In the mist of a heat wave, the models flawlessly walked down the runway in this year’s winter fashions and holiday dresses. The energy was absolutely amazing and I am so honored to have been chosen to be a part of it.

Look at me! I’m backstage!

Socialites love bling and this skirt has it!

Express’ Holiday 2011 Collection is full of sparkle.  Prefect for holiday party dresses.

Love the blue in the skirt and of course the sparkles in the top.

Can you spot Catherine Malandrino?

Express & Lucky Magazine Cocktail Party at the Cooper Square Hotel Rooftop

In preparation for the HUGE world record Express will be setting tomorrow Saturday July 23rd for the biggest runway show in history, I was invited to a VIP Cocktail Party where I dressed up in some fab Express accessories and posed for pictures in the beautiful penthouse of the Cooper Square Hotel.  Not to mention sipped pink champagne with some of NYC’s finest bloggers, magazine, and marketing people.  Express’ summer accessories totally have me looking ready for Bridgehampton Polo or the Kentucky Derby, especially with that adorable floppy straw hat.  Socialites are never too old to play dress up and I have the pictures to prove it.

You too can RSVP on Facebook to Rock the Sidewalk tomorrow in Times Square.  Not only will you get a chance to be part of fashion history like Grace Kelly or Audrey Hepburn, all eligible participants will receive a special t-shirt to remember the occasion and be entered for a chance to win a $250 Express Gift Card.  If you won’t be in the New York City area, the show will also be streaming live beginning at 9 PM ET on express.com, Facebook, and the Express Mobile App.  You might even get a glimpse of me in the VIP section in the Mesh Overlay Rouched Dress with the Tiered Fringe Long Necklace.  You will also get a sneak peak of the 2011 Holiday Collection long before it hits stores.

A Farewell to Fashion Week and Bryant Park

New York Fashion Week’s last year at Bryant Park has sadly come to a close. Feeling like a true fashionista, I walk by Bryant Park everyday on my way to and from work and over the past week seeing it glowing with the aura of fashion week with the Mercedes-Benz logo has been the highlight of my day. The fictional editor-in-chief, Miranda Preistly, in The Devil Wears Prada once described fashion as art you live your life in and she was correct. As an Aspiring Socialite, who has not yet gained a seat adjacent to the runway, I can still know that I was a part of such an amazing week when I see the colors and styles inspired by the outlandish runway designs tickle down into my favorite discount stores. We are all a part of Bryant Park’s legacy either as willing participants or collateral damage.

Though it is unfortunate that New York Fashion Week will no longer take place at Bryant Park, I am not at all surprised by the decision. As Oscar Wilde once said, “Fashion is a form of ugliness so intolerable that we have to alter it every six months.”  In the worlds of fashion, entertainment, and publicity, we always tend to disregard the past in favor of the next big thing. A month ago, my psychic told me that the universe is constantly moving at high speeds, therefore, change is inevitable. This gives every aspiring socialite hope that they will be seated front row center at fashion week in six months. After all, Mr. Wilde also said, “Anyone who lives within their means suffers from a lack of imagination.” So go ahead, live like a true American socialite.
