My Mom In Central Park 1974

Looking through pictures of my Mom in Central Park in 1974 is like uncovering a new kind of vintage.  I think I inherited my love of New York City from my mother who has always been the biggest supporter of my big city dreams. Having been born in Caracas, Venezuela, my Mom has always loved the beauty and splendor of the island of Manhattan.  If only I could find this 70s halter dress and recreate this shoot.  But, some things can never be recreated.  As I grow and pursue my socialite dreams here in the center of the universe, I’ll forever be thankful for her strength and support, a spirit that was captured perfectly in her visit to 1974 Central Park.

Central Park Skies

Sunday was one of the most glorious days ever to be in Central Park.  As an Aspiring Socialite, it’s always been a habit of mine to live my life gazing above.  Most of the time I find myself looking at Manhattan penthouses from far below.  On this day, however, it was nothing, but clear skies and mysterious writing above me in a magical land we all know as Central Park.

A Picnic in the Park

One of my favorite things to do in New York City is going to the Whole Foods in Columbus Circle, getting food from their delicious buffet, and taking it over to Central Park for a picnic.  I totally recommend going through this ritual one day with a few close friends.   It’s a beautiful way to experience New York and one of the few relaxing things I’ve ever participated in on the island of Manhattan.  I strongly recommend bringing cocktails or wine with you on this weekend excursion, but be sure to keep all such beverages in unmarked containers.

As tribute to one of my favorite weekend activities, I’ve put together the perfect Central Park Picnic outfit:

1.  TOPSHOP Check Floral Lattice Sun Dress: Every picnic is a great photo opportunity.  Be sure to get some angelic shots of you and your friends with Central Park in the background.  The outfit is key.

2.  kate spade new york seaport grand bracelet watch: I’ve been obsessed with this watch for a while.  So I obviously had to include it.

3.  Chloe Sunglasses: Never spend the day in Central Park without a stylish pair of sunglasses.

4.  Picnic Time Picnic Basket: Very cute to have for those summer days in the park or on the beach.

5.  MIA Bonita Orange Nova Flip Flops: When going on a walk or picnic in the park, always wear sensible shoes that match your outfit.

Pictures from the Weekend

This Memorial Day weekend, I was quite the NYC homebody.  I ventured close to home to Central Park, Queens, and Brooklyn.  Here are some of the highlights from my 2012 Memorial Day weekend.

I went to Central Park and to lunch with Cocktail Chic and her adorable dog Roscoe.  It was Roscoe’s first trip to Central Park and I’ve never seen him so happy.  At lunch, he needed a whole seat for himself because he won’t sit on the floor.  It was a total Hilton sister moment.

A cloudy and humid day in Columbus Circle.  This explains why there are no actual pictures of me in this weekend photo series.  The intense humidity of the weekend was unflattering to my hair and skin.  It’s going to be one hot and humid summer.

My mom, sister, stepdad, and cousin came into town Sunday on a whim.  We celebrated our Venezuelan heritage at an Arepa Cafe in Queens.  I’d love to return to the beaches on Venezuela someday.  But, for now, I’ll have to stick to NYC’s Venezuelan restaurants.

This box that sits on a bookshelf in my cousin’s apartment in Queens, basically describes my life an Aspiring Socialite.  I guess this city is full of dreamers.  I need to get a dream box of my own.

A Late Afternoon in Central Park

When you are aspiring in the city that never sleeps, time goes by even faster than you could ever imagine. Summer is coming to an end and it will soon be time for stylish boots, scarves, and long sweaters over leggings. Lately, I have spent my time taking in every last ray of sunshine on Central Park’s green. Yesterday was such a beautiful day that by late afternoon I could stay in my apartment no longer and ventured to Central Park to read magazines and drink an iced coffee in the glorious weather. I even skipped the subway and walked the 20 blocks to my destination.

I could not have made a better decision.  The late afternoon sun was warm and welcoming not at all overbearing like it might have been at noon.  I sat there on a beach towel drinking a Starbucks and reading Ladies Home Journal felling like a true New York socialite.  I then decided that I needed to capture this wonderful moment for posterity.  Finding myself in the best of both worlds surrounded by trees and grass with beautiful buildings in the distance, I took out my camera and began snapping pictures of myself on the lawn.  A self-absorbed move?  Maybe.  But, I couldn’t be happier with how the pictures came out.  I guess even socialites can enjoy the simple pleasures of alone time. What do you do to get away without ever leaving home?
