ABC Family’s Jane By Design Style Challenge Begins!

I’m so honored and excited to announce that I’ve been chosen as one of the bloggers participating in ABC Family’s Jane By Design Style Challenge!  Over the next several weeks, I’ll be receiving challenges every Tuesday and Friday from the fictional no excuses fashion maven Gray Chandler Murray of the fashion house, Donovan Decker.  When she doesn’t feel like addressing me directly, I’ll be hearing from her assistant, Jane.

This evening, I received a tastefully decorated Jane By Design trunk filled with cryptic items each corresponding to a different task.  The contents of the trunk are a bit reminiscent of ABC Family’s Pretty Little Liars because this is totally something “A” would do.  The mystery of this all kind of makes me feel like I’m pledging a sorority all over again with Gray Chandler Murray as my pledge mom.  The fashion of it all makes me feel a bit like being Anne Hathaway’s character in The Devil Wears Prada.  I’m determined to win over the house of Donovan Decker and have my blog mentioned on the show.  In fact, I’m determined to impress them so much that they’ll want to give me a walk-on role. Be sure to follow me in my Style Challenge and to tune into Jane By Design on Tuesday Jan. 3rd at 9/8c.

Lucky Shops New York VIP Party & Screening of ABC Family’s Jane By Design

Thanks to being one of Lucky Magazine‘s favorite bloggers, they invited me and a friend to the Lucky Shops New York VIP Party and an exclusive after party at the Crosby Street Hotel for a pre-screening of ABC Family‘s new show, Jane By Design, premiering in January. We also got to mingle with the stars of the show.  Since a picture is worth 1000 words, here is a photo essay of my epic night.

So many people, so many deals, so little time…

I had my eye on this cute little mini red Foley + Corinna bag.  I also found some of the most inspiring accessories at the Rebecca Minkoff booth.

Lucky Magazine always makes me feel like a star hence the director’s chair.

My friend Tracy and I met Erica Dasher, the star ABC Family’s new series Jane By Design at the after party at the Crosby Street Hotel. She’s such a doll! You should totally tune into the show on January 3rd at 9/8c. The pilot was a lot of fun to watch and featured some great fashion by costume designer, Olivia Miles.  The show tells the story of a quirky high school student with great fashion sense who gets a job at a high-end fashion house after a case of mistaken identity.  She then begins leading a double life as a high school “Plain Jane” and rising fashion executive a.k.a. the executive assistant to a crazy fashion maven.  It’s like The Devil Wears Prada meets high school.

A Fall of Primetime Secrets and Lies

If the season finale and marathon of Pretty Little Liars tonight isn’t enough to get your dark television drama fix, secrets, lies, and stolen identities will be taking over primetime this fall.  Here is the scoop on four fall shows that will keep you on the edge of your seat:

Revenge: (Premieres Wed. Sept. 21st 10/9c on ABC) Is a modern version of The Count of Monte Cristo with a female protagonist. It tells the story of Emily Thorne, a newcomer to the Hamptons who isn’t new to the area at all. Something horrible happened long ago that ruined her family and she is back for revenge.  Socialites never forgive and forget.

The Secret Circle: (Premieres Thurs. Sept. 15th 9/8c on The CW) Vampires and werewolves are out and witches are in. To my delight, Halloween is coming early this year with The Secret Circle.  Cassie Blake is a seemingly normal teenage girl who finds herself orphaned after a fire.  After moving in with her grandmother, she discovers she was meant to complete a mysterious circle of powerful witches. But, dark magic may be at play when she begins to speculate that the fire may not have been an accident.

Ringer: (Premieres Tues. Sept. 13th 9/8c on The CW) Taking place in New York, this seems a lot like an adult Gossip Girl. Sarah Michelle Gellar stars as a woman on the run who after briefly reuniting with her identical twin sister assumes her identity when her seemingly perfect sister disappears overboard on a boat trip. However, with all of the secrets and lies the deceptively flawless Siobhan was hiding she is no safer as her sister.

The Lying Game: (Premiered Mon. Aug. 15th 9/8c on ABC Family) Twins and deception seem be a theme this television season. Emma and Sutton are two twins separated at birth that switch lives in order of pursue the mysterious identity of their birth mother, but there are many other secrets along the way. With Pretty Little Liars coming to an end it’s great that there is another Sara Shepard novel coming to the small screen.

Socialites Against Cyberbullying

It is about time we deleted the drama and uploaded the love. Socialites may be known for their drama, but bullying both on and offline is never the socialite way. I was very touched by a recent campaign by ABC Family and Seventeen Magazine to Delete Digital Drama across the web.  Together, they are calling teens who are victims of this horrific trend not to respond and to delete all bullying-related posts.  This powerful campaign comes just in time for the premiere of ABC Family’s much-anticipated original movie, Cyberbully, staring Emily Osment (pictured left wearing the signature [delete] t-shirt) as Taylor Hillridge, a teen whose life is ruined by cyberbullying.

Today, I am using my online socialite status to [delete] cyberbullying from the Internet.  Believe it or not, this issue hits very close to home.  Long before the days of Facebook, when AOL chimed “You’ve Got Mail” and “Goodbye” on a dial-up system that took over your phone line, I found myself a victim of cyberbullying.  To this day, I still can’t stand the sound AOL Instant Messager makes when you receive an IM.  In fact, it terrifies me.  However, even in my adult life, I have come across the occasional digital bully.  Ironically, the Internet has given the self-confidence that I carry with me on the streets of New York,  I now use it as a place to promote myself and others positively.  Technology is here to make us better people (and better shoppers.)  Therefore, bullying and negativity have no place on the web.  So [delete,] [delete,] and [delete.]

Cyberbully will premiere on July 17th at 8/7c on ABC Family.  If you are a victim of cyberbullying, remember that you are not alone and that the people bullying you are probably just jealous. Also, remember that what you put out on the Internet will be your legacy. Your words and actions will remain online long after you die. So, before you put anything online ask yourself one question: Is this how I would like to be remembered for eternity?

Pretty Little Liars & Greek Premiere Tonight on ABC Family

Jersey Shore may be cool and all, but I am going crazy with excitement for the back to back premieres of two of my favorite shows, Pretty Little Liars (8pm/9c) and Greek (9pm/10c) tonight on ABC Family. I have always been a fan of teen dramas. Perhaps, they are my way of compensating for my awkward high school years.   Therefore, there is nothing I would rather be doing on a Monday night than drowning in the river of lies shared by Spencer Hastings (Troian Avery Bellisario,) Hanna Marin (Ashley Benson,) Aria Montgomery (Lucy Hale,) and Emily Fields (Shay Mitchell.)  Plus, Ezra (Ian Harding) is hot!

Growing out of my awkward teenage phase, in college I was the quintessential sorority girl who wore the golden arrow of Pi Beta Phi. My friends have even jokingly referred to me as Casey Cartwright (Spencer Grammer.) So Greek brings back tons of great collegiate memories. Like myself, Paul James who plays Calvin Owens also went to Syracuse University. He was frat boy in real life too. I even saw his picture in a composite at Sigma Alpha Epsilon. Speaking of frat boys, Cappie (Scott Michael Foster) is totally overrated.  I think I will follow in the footstep of Rebecca Logan (Dilshad Vadsaria) and find a boy like Evan Chambers (Jake McDorman.)
