My Love of London

With the London Olympics fast approaching, I have a huge confession to make. I think London is the best city in the world, but I’ve never even been there.  I almost studied abroad in London in the Spring of 2008, but the recession and the crazy exchange rate stopped me.  I had a wonderful semester at Syracuse University so I never came to regret what was truly the only economical decision I have ever made in my life.  Throughout the years, however, my love for London has only grown stronger the more British fashions hit the runways and royals grace the tabloids.

At first glance it doesn’t seem logical to love a place you’ve never set foot in.  But, when you really think about it, loving a foreign city you’ve never experienced actually makes perfect sense because imagination is always better than reality.  Though I dream of London’s ancient streets daily, I’ve grown to realize how many people across the world (perhaps even in London) have the same romantic notion about my life here in New York.  Much of which is glamourous, while much is not.  But, to New York dreamers, it’s all glam.  I don’t usually watch sports, but I love watching the Olympics because the games are all about dreams.  So this year, I’ll watch the Opening Ceremony admiring London from a far until the time comes for me to cross the pond.
