Choosing the Right Psychic

If you’ve been following my Twitter, you probably already know that I’ve been rediscovering my spiritual side lately.  When it comes to matters of the heart and mind, socialites have long consulted psychics for guidance.  Finding myself in need of clairvoyance, I decided to do the same.  Over the weekend, I ventured uptown to the Upper East Side for brunch and a visit with my psychic to get my cards read, basically the ultimate NYC spiritual experience.

My tarot reading was truly enlightening.  She predicted tons of success for Aspiring Socialite along with luck in money and love for 2013.  Though I’m destined to meet my soul mate in April, I’ll have four flings before meeting him.  She also saw someone close to me getting married and gave me excellent dating advice.  I highly recommend getting a psychic reading of your own.  However, before you journey into the world of the occult, there are a few things you must keep in mind when choosing a psychic:

  • Don’t get upsold: Believe it or not, there are a lot of bad psychics out there who play on your weaknesses and insecurities to make a quick buck.  I was told once by a reader that if I didn’t give her $200 for a magic candle, I’d never get married.  If a psychic tries to sell you overpriced products or rituals with threats of years of sadness for you and your family, leave immediately and do not return.  A reading should empower you, not cause you fear and anxiety.
  • Go with a group: Many if not most psychics do readings out of their own homes.  Unless your psychic is a personal friend that you know well, go with a friend or group of friends just to play it safe.
  • Take the good with the bad: Though many psychics feel an obligation to tell you anything they see no matter if it’s good or bad, some of them will ask if you’d like them to leave out the bad.  It’s really up to you, but for the integrity of the reading, I would suggest electing to hear both.
  • Check the Internet: Good psychics don’t solicit business on the street or at amusement parks.  For a more legitimate reading, start by Googling psychics in your area and giving a few a call.
