Beige is all of the Rage!

Everywhere from the tabloids to the red carpet to the stores, I have been seeing beige in the form of clothes, shoes, and bags. Beige fashions were hot in spring and are tagging along for summer. Though beige may be a boring color for your apartment, the opposite is true when it comes to your clothing ensemble. In a neutral colored outfit, you are the star. While people will still remember your outfit, the thing that really stands out is you. This goes along with Vera Wang’s philosophy that, “I want people to see the dress, but remember the woman.”

Outrageous patterns are fun and flirty, however, as a socialite, it is important to remember to always be the star of your own outfit. If you haven’t already, get a pair of beige heels to keep with your classic pair of black pumps in case an invitation to a red carpet event should arise.

Teen queen, Selena Gomez, owned the red carpet at the 2011 MTV Movie Awards in a Giambattisa Valli with beige accents and heels.

Kate Middleton made her first trip to the White House in a tight-fitting beige dress designed by British retailer Reiss. Typical of the stylish, yet low maintenance Duchess of Cambridge, the dress retails for a modest $340. Just like everything worn by the world’s newest and favorite royal, this outfit is selling off the shelves in both the U.S. and the U.K.

Classic Summer Must-Haves

Warm weather has hit the eastern seaboard and everyone seems to be in a much better mood.  Summer is a time for socialites to leave the city for the sunny designer clad shores of the Hamptons. This classically sacred tradition is rooted in the desire for relaxation.  In spite of all of the stifling heat that seems to get worse and worse every year due to global warming, during the summer months, the city continues to move at its ridiculously fast pace that we only pretend to keep up with.  Vacating your penthouse in the city in favor of your beachside mansion is the only way to really escape the heat.

Here are my five top summer picks that you won’t want to forget to pack:

1. White Shorts: White shorts are a classic part of the casual summer outfit.  They transition well from day to night along with the beach to the shopping/dining scene.

2. Sunscreen: Contrary to popular belief, you will still get tan even if you apply sunscreen.  So wear it along with your Chanel sunglasses.

3. Fit Flops: Walking on sand is said to be an excellent workout.  With Fit Flops, you can get that same effect both on and off the beach to tone up your legs for those hot summer fashions.

4. Your favorite bikini: Socialite or not, bikini shopping can be one of the less savory parts of summer.  Therefore, when you find the perfect one, it is like finding your summer soulmate.  My advice is to buy it in every color.

5. A Signature Sundress: Never go onto the awesome summer scene without an equally awesome sundress.

Hats are the New Black

I just came across this awesome T-shirt at Ann Taylor LOFT. I am completely obsessed with the design, especially the beadwork. Once I saw it, I was ready to got the beach. But, what struck me the most about this fun t-shirt design was the hat. Recent events such as the royal wedding and the Kentucky Derby have boosted hats into mainstream fashion just in time for summer. Not only are these once overlooked fashion accessories fun and classy, they are also functional in protecting your skin from the sun’s harmful rays. Contrary to popular belief, even those with supermodel style hair can benefit from wearing a hat. That’s what fascinators are for. Watch out society ladies, you may be getting a run for your money this summer when it comes to your signature accessory.

At the Kentucky Derby, the horse race is an afterthought. This socialite studded event that took place last weekend is all about the hats. Inspired by the luxurious and sometimes outlandish looks at the royal wedding, this year’s Kentucky Derby proves that Americans too can have a place in hat history. Get set for polo in the Hamptons this summer because the hats are going to be even crazier. To be honest, I am really just getting the hang of this whole hat craze. Though bigger can be better, that’s not always the case.

Nancy’s Gone Green Eco Boutique

Searching for the perfect Mother’s Day gift? Look no further than Mother Earth. Nancy’s Gone Green, founded by a mother-daughter team, is by far my favorite online eco boutique. Founders, Nancy and Mary, took their passion for nature and beauty to the next level by providing the world with affordable luxurious earth-friendly fashions. The website provides both new and vintage clothing, bags, shoes, jewelry, and accessories made with fair labor and eco-friendly practices. The colorful unique designs from all over the world are spring must-haves for mothers, daughters, and kids. I personally have a soft spot in my heart for the Jonano Chloe Tunic Dress and Hannah Naomi’s line of handmade jewelry made with recycled wire and handblown glass.

Aside from showing an everlasting support for my dream of living like a socialite, my mother has always appreciated my sense of style. Therefore, on Mother’s Day, I always give her the gift of fashion by personally picking out clothes for her. Somehow, whatever I pick out seems to look perfect on her. Happy Mother’s Day to my Mom and to mothers everywhere!

Alexander McQueen at the 2011 Met Gala

At Friday’s Royal Wedding, Kate Middleton and her sister Pippa became the most famous Alexander McQueen wearers in the history of the world. More than a year after his untimely death, British fashion designer, Alexander McQueen is sweeping the fashion world. Lead by famed Creative Director, Sarah Burton, who personally designed Kate and Pippa’s gowns, style moguls are in full out McQueen mania.

The Met Gala which took place last night is often called the Oscars of fashion. It is no surprise that McQueen dominated as Best Picture because this year’s gala honored the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s latest fashion exhibition entitled Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty. Gisele Bundchen (Pictured – Photo: Kevin Mazur, Getty Images) looked stunning in this red hot McQueen number. Sarah Jessica Parker also dawned Alexander McQueen. Madonna and Gwyneth Paltrow gave Stella McCartney an honorable mention on the red carpet, but no one can seem to get McQueen off their minds. Is it just me or is the world going British? I guess every Aspiring Socialite is a McQueen wearer in the making. Props to Sarah Burton on where she has taken the line. However, I hesitate to think that these two momentous McQueen events coincided by accident.
